I used to work for primestar in their call center here, and some of the old tricks still work. A lot of it too is your tone when you talk to them. This might sound stupid, but act younger than you are. By and large, you're talking to 20-something kids, and it helps if you can relate in some way...

I dunno, I think that's like saying the difference between a 1st-gen iPhone and an iPhone 4S is "incremental." sure, they look similar and have a lot of the same apps, but under the hood they aren't even close. I doubt the dtv receivers change on that kind of level, but "newer is better." :D

I had a weird issue also where a box would pop up saying basically to hit Red for video controls (I think). Very similar to the issue you describe albeit a different popup box...basically I cured it by a red button reset. Maybe that'll do it for you, although I must say I was on a CE version...
