    Sunday Ticket 2018

I went all in on it for the first time last year, and while it was enjoyable, I generally attend 6-7 college games every year that require 3 day weekends. So 1/3 of the time I did not use it. I will not be using it this coming season, one and done.

    DirecTV fires Installers

My ATT gigabit and Directv dish were installed by ATT guys in the funny looking little newer van cars they roll around in. I figured it would start happening. And to be honest, one of my biggest complaints is the contractors Dish, Mediacom and Sat Internet use here. Have had some bad...

New Guide UI now rolling out (plus HDR support!)

Only discussing Wide Color Gamut in that, HDR still has its effects because these displays can be 8-9 times brighter than older non HDR displays too. Gives you a contrast ratio POP along with better colors. For example my VT50 had a black level of 0.001 footlamberts and a peak white of 45...

I think some 2016 Sonys got HLG this summer, and then my 2017 has had it. I doubt 2015's will get it, unless they have it.

New Guide UI now rolling out (plus HDR support!)

I honestly figured we would never see HLG in use too much, I assumed Directv would roll with HDR10, but I guess HLG makes more sense because it is for broadcast tv. It is setup like lossless audio on blu-ray, where if you gear can do it, you get Master HD and True HD, if not you get DD and DTS...

4k and HDR are two different things, as well as WCG. The largest benefit to UHD is not 2160p, its HDR and WCG.

HLG is more out there than you think, noone has been using it until now.

New Guide UI now rolling out (plus HDR support!)

HDR10, HDR+(Dynamic HDR), HLG(Broadcast version of HDR10 to be simple) and Dolby Vision are your formats. Directv and UK providers are using HLG, because that is what it is for. You will see HDR10 and DV on discs and streaming, and HDR10+ is a bastard used by Samsung and a few others because...

Well, I checked out the War for the Planet of the Apes UHD rental download. Its only 4K, so I guess for now rental movies won't get HDR.

The compression is getting out of hand

I use Amazon Channels for my HBO, Cinemax, etc... type stuff. Things like Ray Donovan and Game of Thrones look WAY better than via Directv.

The compression is getting out of hand

Since going to a 75", Directv aint that hot any more. And it is true, I can fire up FS Go or Watch ESPN on a device and get better image quality than Directv.

Thats crazy. I didn't use the test when I had my OLED, only the new Sony, so I'm out of ideas.

Thinking of jumping from dish to Directv

If you think Dish's PQ is close or the difference is negligible, you either sit too far away from a smaller tv, or need glasses. Both look the same on a 42" from 10 feet, on a 65" from 9 feet, yeah, it ain't even close. Carry on though, because people never take that into consideration when...

Thinking of jumping from dish to Directv

Having a larger tv, the PQ is obviously better on Directv. I recently bundled with my ATT gigabit and went back to Directv, got the HR54 and a C61k so I could get 4K. Excellent deal, I pay $140/month for 24 months to have gigabit internet and Directv xtra all included.
