Interesting. I've had both services, and E*'s HD PQ is better than D*'s, although not by much. I give D* the big edge in sports packages and reception. Eastern Arc should solve one of those problems. If you like movies in HD, however, E* just blows away D* in quality, quantity, and price.

D* DVR's are that bad, and they are not worth the problems. I can't wait until my contract is up to go back to E*. The HR-20 is just a bad piece of equipment. D*'s advantages are signal strength and sports packages. E*'s advantages are everything else under the sun.

My HD PQ with D* is far worse than cable but only slightly worse than E*. Perhaps E*'s has gotten worse since I switched to D*, but I still have Comcast and its HD PQ blows the doors off D*.

When the latest CES opened a hole in the HR20, it's been widely reported that D*'s bitrate was around 6-7 MBPS. Unless you have Apple TV, you won't ever see anything worse than that. E* is consistently around 9-10 MBPS, but they downrez to 1440 x 1080. I guess it's give and take, but neither...
