Cable companies have basically unlimited bandwidth with SDV. How they choose to use and distribute that bandwidth is another story altogether.

How good / bad is Directv?

I've let you act like a complete jerk for a couple of posts and taken the high road, but 3 strikes and you're out. Those with an IQ above 5 know for what the smilies are used. I was being sarcastic. So, for the last time, please have the same respect for others opinions that we have had for...

How good / bad is Directv?

It's not $230 ETF better, but when my contract with D* is up, I will return to E* as long as Eastern Arc solves my reception problems. And yes, E*s HD PQ was better than D*'s, but like I said, not by much. Also, I do have 20/12 vision. :) The biggest reason for my disdain for D* has nothing...

How good / bad is Directv?

Interesting. I've had both services, and E*'s HD PQ is better than D*'s, although not by much. I give D* the big edge in sports packages and reception. Eastern Arc should solve one of those problems. If you like movies in HD, however, E* just blows away D* in quality, quantity, and price.

    Is Directv DVRs that bad?

I'd expect more original thought from someone located in NW Ohio and flying that flag. I'm relaying my experience with D*'s DVR, which is what I believe was the question asked by the OP. It almost seems as if you are taking it personally. Like someone is bashing you because they have had bad...

ZDNet Article "DirecTV... Make Products Work"

The HR-20 is just a brutally bad piece of equipment. Typically, the only users who like it have never experienced another provider. I have only missed one recording, but it's just so clunky and slow and needs a reboot about once a week. D* is really smart to require 2 year contracts. I have...

    Is Directv DVRs that bad?

D* DVR's are that bad, and they are not worth the problems. I can't wait until my contract is up to go back to E*. The HR-20 is just a bad piece of equipment. D*'s advantages are signal strength and sports packages. E*'s advantages are everything else under the sun.

MPEG4 HD Channels - now lower quality?

My HD PQ with D* is far worse than cable but only slightly worse than E*. Perhaps E*'s has gotten worse since I switched to D*, but I still have Comcast and its HD PQ blows the doors off D*.

E* Takes HD Dump.. How does this effect D*.

When the latest CES opened a hole in the HR20, it's been widely reported that D*'s bitrate was around 6-7 MBPS. Unless you have Apple TV, you won't ever see anything worse than that. E* is consistently around 9-10 MBPS, but they downrez to 1440 x 1080. I guess it's give and take, but neither...

http://www.directv.com/images/pdf/WorDirectLineup3_n.pdf It's nothing like the Family Pack, it's actually a full force channel lineup. I also get Discovery HD Theater and Food HD which aren't listed in that PDF.

    Minimum cheapest pack with HD

I threatened to cancel when they raised the prices this time around, and they gave me a package called Preferred Choice for only $32.99. They also gave me free HD DVR service. I added the $10 HD access, so my monthly bill is only $43 a month, and it includes every channel I could ever watch plus...

    Mountain West Confrence Network Question

Here is one for you, did you know that NoD's ratings are higher when they are really bad? Yeah, that's right, there are more haters of that school than anything else. This does not apply to BYU, as we all wish we lived Bill's "Big Love" lifestyle. Mmmmmmm, Margene!!! :hungry:

    Mountain West Confrence Network Question

There is some pretty good football and basketball being played in high schools around the country as well. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that MTN schools have a very limited amount of national appeal. It's a non-BCS conference without any tradition, as the conference has not...

    Mountain West Confrence Network Question

How long can they go without carriage? That list of teams is so unappealing nationally that their best bet would be to give the channel to D* for free, just so they could increase their own advertising revenue.

    Directv HD Quality!

D*'s HD picture has steadily declined since launch. I haven't seen any blocking, but the picture just keeps getting softer and softer, like they've installed a color sponge. I have Comcast to compare and contrast, and their HD PQ just keeps getting stronger with more and more color saturation...
