DTV is not going to give up the cash cow they have from the $5 per extra reciever charge. No way around it. You just have to factor the cost in to determine if your DTV subscription is worth it.

Unless you want to order PPV via the remote, there is really no reason to plug the reciever into the phone jack. Something to think about before you spend $30-$50 on a wireless phone jack.

If the actual guide list the show as starting X number of minutes early and/or ending Y number of minutes late, then the Tivo will figure this out and record those extra minutes. If the guide shows the show going from 8pm - 9pm then that's all Tivo will record unless you pad the start and stop...
