I have the HR-23 and HR-24. The HR-24 is a lot faster than the HR-23. The HR-23 drives me nuts being so slow after using the HR-24. So I understand how the 8300 seems lightning fast to you. The HR-24 still lags a little but it's a lot closer to the 8300 than the HR-23.

What HR box did you have Hemi? I have the HR-24 and it's a lot better than the SA 8300 I had with cable last year. Granted the HR-24 is not as fast as the 8300 but not as slow as the earlier HRs. The UI is so much better, for me, than the 8300 I had. Hopefully Cisco will/have rewrite the UI on...

Well, I like hearing Hemi experience with cable. And his comparison between the two. I just wish Comcast here had better PQ because they have most of the HD channels that D*. Not all but most. That would cut my bills down because I have voice and internet with Comcast right now.

Me too. I have no desire in 3d. I think this is either the 3rd or 4th time in the past 30 years they have tried 3d and failed every time. Better PQ and new HD channels is my prefence now. How is it they can get these 3d deals signed so fast. And they are still "working on contracts" for HD...

I saw a thread in the Dish forums about audio drop outs and it made me think of us. I've not notice any sound dropouts for quite awhile now. What about anybody else? Could they have gotten it fixed?

That's how I have mine setup and still get the dropouts. With my old Onkyo TX-SR805 it was dropping out for 1-4 words before the sound came back. DD resync? With my new Onkyo TX-NR708 the dropouts are still there but it for only like 1/10th of a second. I notice it but I don't lose whole words...

Okay, It's been over a week since I got the new AV Receiver. The dropouts are still there. Just not as bad. With my old SR805 I would lose 2-4 words. With the NR708, it's less than half a second. So I don't miss anything. So it is definitely D*'s problem.

Got the NR708 hooked up. No dropouts this weekend. I think it's still D* problem. But the newer receiver is able to make the change faster than my old SR805. I don't miss a little bit of the sound on Blu-Ray when it changes from DD to DTS-HD like I was with the the SR805. I'll keep you informed.

I'll let you all know Saturday 11/20/10 if this works. I just ordered the Onkyo TX-NR708 to replace my TX-SR805. The SR805 has always been slow to lock in. Even with BluRay I miss a couple of seconds of sound when it switches from DD to DTS-HD (for example).

I had dropouts last night on the three or four hd channels I was flipping threw. I do have an Onkyo receiver. And I can stop the dropouts if I switch off DD5.1 in the HR24. I have a Front Projector so I can't hook straight to it and get sound since it has no speakers. If replacing the Onkyo...

I've heard turning DD off in the Directv HD box will solve the problem. But who wants to watch HD with stereo sound? Not me. Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon with one of the software updates. And it drives me nuts too.
