One of my C31s is not turning off. Well sort of. I push power off on the remote or press the blue DirecTV button on the unit itself. The video turns off, blue screen but the unit seems to lock straight up and nothing I do short of the reset button or powercycle works.
Defective unit? Or...
They hire contractors, don't they?
The installer that came to my house and did a crappy job barely spoke a word of English and just basically had receivers, dishes and other gear strewn carelessly all over his mini van. I made sure I followed him everywhere. I don't trust anyone in my house.
I only have one regret and that is that I owned my own media center setup with the cable provider. So that is sorta money down the drain. But having TV when power is out (and I'm running on the generator) is worth it. Price wise it's a wash.
That's not the best deal you can get.
I got a genie and 3 clients, did the costco and referral deal. With that I paid nothing up front and got a $200 costco gift card, plus an additional $10 per month off for 10 months.
I can't offer you a referral here (against forum rules) but if you...
It's 10 grand or thereabouts. That's mind boggling and I think only someone who has a luxury yacht would be buying such an antenna.
And you can't even get locals with that setup on a boat.
Just an update to close the loop on this one.
I got my DirecTV installed. I got a HR34 (genie) and I used the DirecTV coax networking but I got the Pace C31 clients (3 of them). The installer put a BB DECA to connect to my home network and internet. He did the cabling for that pretty sloppy but...
I hate the idea of using MoCA. I already have Cat6 throughout the house. It would be one less coax to connect, and theoretically I can move the TV elsewhere when needed.
No, we'll be getting the Tracvision receiver for the RV. From what I understand, Tracvision uses GPS to determine whether...
Hi everyone!
I've been around here a while but dropped off pretty much since I canceled DirecTV in 2006 and went with cable.
Now after Hurricane Sandy killed cable while the power was out I am reconsidering DirecTV due to power outage reliability. I also use Windows Media Center and...
So what's D*'s HD quality like these days with the new MPEG4 sats?
My last knowledge about D* HD was when they were doing the whole odd shaped pixels thing and downrezzing HD (or at least making it look worse).
NOt sure if this has changed with MPEG4 and the new sats.
If push comes to shove I will just install the pole myself and let them mount it there.
The reason for wanting the pole is simple - snow fade. Brushing snow off the dish on a pole in the yard is much easier than for a dish on the roof.
Also the wife wants no antennas on the house. She...
Excellent. That means me. :)
I'm using commscope RG6QS cable. It should meet or exceed their spec.
Well even if I have to take locals I don't mind. I was just wondering if I could exclude the locals since I have a decent OTA setup.
Thanks for your answers.
So basically what I can do is put a box outside to connect to the dish like we currently have for cable.
How many coax lines are required now? Do they have the same setup with multiswitches etc for the new MPEG4 sats as they did for MPEG2?
The reason for asking for a self install is that...
My cable company's HD offerings aren't all that good, so I'm thinking of going to DirecTV.
I was a sub from 2002 until 2006 when I canceled (apartment wasn't facing the southern sky).
I understand the whole landscape has changed up, so I have a couple questions.
Would I be treated as...
Fox Report with Shepherd Smith is widescreen HD, or at least I've seen it in HD once (I don't stay around here that late to watch it most days, sorry. ;) ).
Also, many of the 4:3 studio shots aren't SD. They're cropped HD. The studios are HD.
That's not correct. Some of the shows are in HD.
The studios are wired for HD and the cameras are HD for both Fox Business and Fox News.
A lot of the shows simply have a 4:3 window and an "HD wing" but there are a few that are widescreen HD.
