    H24/100 HELL!

You're not alone. Before I switched to cable about 2 years ago and got a Tivo HD, It was one big nightmare with HR20s and HR21s. My first 8 months, I went through 4 units with what they claimed was hard drive failures.

"If Ever I Would Leave D*"

All that means is the alignment on the Directv dish may be tweaked better than the Dish dish. :) Also different equipment may have differences in how strength is calibrated, i.e. both signals being equal, D* may show 95 and Dish may show the same signal as 90.

Temporarily stop service based on income

Keep in mind, in order to suspend your account, there must be no outstanding balance. If so it must be paid in full. Then and only then will they suspend your account.

    HR-22 *DEAD*

You didnt say how old your "dead" receiver was. Hopefully still under waranty or else that replacement WILL extent your contract. I know from experience.

    HR20 issues

Be aware, unless you're in a waranty period, any replacement you get WILL extend your contract. And also be aware, Directv may "forget" to mention that slightly significant point. :(

    24 month contract clarification

You're comparing watching TV to eating meals? :D TV=luxury- Food=necessity. Have you actually looked at some of those "so called" HD channels? But I get your take on it. And my guess is, you get mine also.

    24 month contract clarification

Unfortunately people get all caught up the Directv sales gimmick of "more HD than anyone else." But realistically, how much HD can you watch? How much HD can you afford? How many of those HD channels just dont interest you? Someone posted survey results a while back, stating people only watch...

    24 month contract clarification

A subscriber CAN buy out of a contract. Depending on how long you have left, it could be costly. I think I read somewhere that it is 20/month for each month you're shorting your contract. I'm actually looking at doing that myself. Can anyone elaborate on that?

    Local channel lost?

OK I'll do that. "All attempts to reach the station has failed." Does that mean they took the phone off the hook? :D

    Local channel lost?

Ok thanks for the link. But the station didn't just recently change the channel allocation. Since it went to digital 2-3 years ago, it's been 56-1, but appears as 10-1 in my EPG. Unless there has been some sort of change in the last couple of days. Dunno. But it doesn't appear to be a hardware...

    Local channel lost?

I receive my locals through OTA antenna so I can watch them in HD. Yesterday my local CBS affiliate listed in the EPG changed from 10-1 to 56-1 (which is their official digital number). Yet when I tune to 56-1, it's a blank screen with a "searching for signal on off air tuner" message. The...

    HR21 lease?

OK guys apparently I didnt take the PP. Thanks for clearing it up. As far as any 2 year contracts in my future, I seriously doubt that will ever happen again. Note: I didnt say "never". It will depend on what type receiver the new Directv/Tivo turns out to be. It will HAVE to have OTA "scan" or...

    HR21 lease?

OK I finaly called Directv yesterday about my unending problems with my HR21 / AM21 combo. When receiver is on a satellite channel and needs to switch over to OTA channel to record a season pass event, it "can't find tuner." I tune to the channel and its black. I do a reset and the channel...

Correct. It's a backwards way of thinking.

    leaving out the OTA

And what users would that be? And why would having an OTA tuner built in, bother any users? The reason Directv did it is all about $$$. If people had no access to OTA through their receiver, they may feel abligated to subscribe to locals. With an OTA tuner, subs can subtract the monthly fee...

Probably going back to DirecTV, need advice

If I'm correct, I think Directv stopped attaching the 5 lnb dish to the house completely, due to it's size(or there was talk about it). There were complaints. Can't confirm that though. I personally would never let them do it again. Too much wind resistance.

Why dont I get all locals?

I think that was called "significantly viewed". Not sure what ever became of that.
