    Soldering?

harshness makes a good point about a good solder joints. Sometimes, things seems like they are soldered properly but are not. This is a common problem area that simple quick research can avoid big future frustrations. He mentioned as I did as well, keep it as cool as you can. When you see the...

    Soldering?

It's sad that Radio Shack, well here in Canada (don't know about the U.S. as they still exsits on the web), turned into The Source. There, one could walk in there in the morning and have a power supply or whatever the day's project was, built by early afternoon with your own etched circiut...

    Soldering?

Use as little heat as possible. You may not have success as some boards are "multi" layered. Be careful when working caps. They hold a big charge for a long time!! I have a freind that accidentally discharged one, (not a small one) but none the less, a big ball of blue flame knock him across...

    Overclocking

As was said in the last 2 posts by avg1joe and RandallA, that it can be a mess if not done right. This is why I think I'm going to stick to the programs rather than fooling with the machines themselves but will read the links out of interest. The programs do a fair job and as stated that one can...

Got Ya, This is why I'm asking questions and doing some reading before anything else. I'm using MZCPU accelerator and Power strip and that seems to be going good for now. I also have SpeedFan working to monitor stuff. To tell you though, it doesn't look to good being able to do anything more...

Pro96, thank you very much. I am new at this and this and at a glance it seems to be a very good read! IBM users

Fleetfarmer, I'm sure you are quite right. It just seems like the IBM's are where I found most of the questions regarding this topic as they seem to be very quiet. My Dell sometimes sounds like a jet ready for take off!! It doesn't ramp down either after it cools? I have to hit it into hibernate...

    IBM users

Hi all. I'm using 2 out of 3 Net Vista PC's. that I own,, I know you can say sorry later.. LOL All kidding aside, I run others that are faster (by seconds, goodness knows we can't wait!!!) but I have to say that the low noise factor from the fans are superior from the IBM's. 2 things I would...

    Unutbu and other OS systems

Well I tried PCLinuxOS and Mepis today. I might try Cent? I now have 7-8 live disks (programs) to explore a bit more in depth and see which one is more to my liking before I load one to a HDD. I want to thank you all for your suggestions and input. tracker.

    Unutbu and other OS systems

Found a neat free program today called MobaLiveCD. It starts a live ISO from your hard drive or a bootable stick. I tried it from within Windows so I'm not sure if it works in Linux? It was very slow when I tried it but this PC is not fast to start with. I may try it in another machine some...

    Unutbu and other OS systems

Boy, Debian don't make things easy to get thier software. Strange how they offer a USB live version but not a CD or DVD? I guess they want you to load it in hopes that you will stick with them?? I'll burn CD (ISO 1) and see where that takes me??

    Unutbu and other OS systems

Oh, I saw this where it said you can download a small package and the install the rest via internet. Is this what you are reffering too? If that the case the internet works fine as I am using it right now on Debian USB version.

    Unutbu and other OS systems

My goodness, I have been looking for hours for a Debian 5 Live CD ISO and can't seem to have any luck? I found the USB ok! All I'm finding, the links are no longer working? Could someone post a link if they run across one. I think a Gnome version is what I'm looking for but I really don't know...

    Unutbu and other OS systems

Well I just put Debian on a USB and runs pretty smooth. I think I will burn this one and try it from a disk next. I'm having issues seeing my drives saying it cannot mount them but I think if I load to a hard drive, that may take care of things? It found my network easily! I like the fact that...
