We Really Had It Great With Voom!!

Yup, Comca$t just sent their latest rate increase letter. Now they are charging for the digital boxes which were previously free with the Gold package. Makes me miss Voom more and more. Will not go back to E* and they would tell me to f** off since I was a previous sub. STill have great OTA...

We Really Had It Great With Voom!!

Yup, have to agree. While I do like my DVR and VOD, I still would go back to Voom in a heartbeat. I think they came to market a bit too soon. 1-2 years ago, HD was still an oddity for many. Now, even for the big box stores, X-Box, etc., it is all you hear about. Too bad there is no content...

    sending back equipment

Seems to be the general consensus. If they want the oxes back then they should also offer customers the option of having the dish and/or antenna removed and holes properly patched. That is the catch-22 that they are in. I guess it will ultimately come down to the value of the boxes versus the...

    sending back equipment

Yes. likewise E* did not come out and remove the dish when I dropped them. I think that the key difference here is that the customers in question have not dropped Voom, Voom essentially dropped them. That might potentially create additional obligations on Voom's part?

    sending back equipment

I certainly hope that Voom does not try to play it both ways. If they decide to abandon the equipment then that should abandon all of it. If they do want the STB's returned then they are entitled to them. HOWEVER, they should then also be obligated to remove the dish AND the OTA antenna...

    sending back equipment

When I returned my E* equipment they wanted the boxes and the LNB. I told them I could not access the LNB where the dish was mounted. They then waived the return of the LNB. If they want anything, it will just be the boxes.

DISH to carry all 21 in 2006

It is a shame that Voom did not wait until this deal was completed before they announced the shutdown. Given this info I would have gone back to E* as I am sure many others would have. I have now had Comcast for the past 2 weeks and the family loves the DVR and VOD features. True, there is...

POLL: After VOOM, who will be your provider?

Be careful. They will offer you DHA free for 12 months. If you take them up on that you are then locked in for the full 12 months and will have to pay an early termination fee if you switch. Otherwise it is about $5 per month for DHA which, if you are leasing the equipment, never made much...

POLL: After VOOM, who will be your provider?

In my area cable wins on all counts including: - Most HD offerings - Lowest Price - No commitment - DVR rental for $9.99 a month - No absurd "guide fees" or "DVR fees" on top of rental. - No additional charge for 2 additional HD boxes. In my situation it was a no-brainer. I would...

Voom to disable OTA tuner in STB?

"Now, Mindstein, let's consider who it was that dreamed it all. This is a serious question, my dear, and you should not go on licking your paw like that--as if Dinah hadn't washed you this morning! You see, Mindstein, it must have been either me or the Red King. He was part of my dream, of...

Adelphia and Time Warner listed as Cable Providers on MonstersHD.com?

Ironically, I think you will see some of the Voom exclusives showing up on cable long before you see them on E* or D*.

Voom to disable OTA tuner in STB?

They can send a signal to an individual box if they want. That is how they authorize programming. So yes, they could certainly send a kill signal to leased boxes only.

Voom to disable OTA tuner in STB?

You would be surprised. I worked at a bank a long, long time ago. I recall situations where there were customers who had EXCELLENT credit ratings but also had a single open item where some small amount was turned over to collection. These customers were stunned when something like an auto loan...

INSTALLERS NOTiFIED TO SEND BACK RECEIVERS

If Voom wants the boxes back, and makes it easy to return them, then I will indeed hand them back. Bottom line, they are leased and do not belong to me. Just do not expect me to block off a 4-5 hour window for an installer to possibly show up. I have been trying to figure out WHY they...

INSTALLERS NOTiFIED TO SEND BACK RECEIVERS

"Professional" uninstall. Reality is that if they remove the dish they will just glob some silicon where the holes were. For a wall or eve mount it is not so bad. For those with the dish mounted on the roof that could lead to bigger problems. If dish is on your roof you might be better off...

    current dishnetwork and directv offers

The first CSR I spoke to was clueless so I hung up and called back. Just tell them you are currently a satellite subscriber and were interested in the "Dish Win Back" offers you heard about. The offers are in the system, a knowledgeable csr will find them easily enough.

    current dishnetwork and directv offers

I would sign up with cable for a few months. Pay $10 per month for a DVR, grab a "Dish Winback" discount, and then sit back and wait. You will not be "locked in" and 6-12 months from now we will have a much clearer picture of where both E* and D* stand in terms of delivering on their promises.

just got of the phone with a csr

I really can not fathom why they would want to go to the expense of gathering up the leased boxes. They will essentially be boat anchors as of May 01. It would make even less sense for them to incur the cost of paying service techs to come out and pick up the boxes. I will not just leave...

Filing alleges Dolan created fake group

Yes, now you are getting it. :) Do you think that the whole soap opera which ensued was because Charles was fully aware of and supported Jimmy's sale of the sat? I don't think so. Even if Voom were never part of the equation, little Jimmy has proven himself to be a very poor businessman...

Filing alleges Dolan created fake group

I DO agree that CVC needed to walk away from Voom as they had incurred too much debt and too many obligations. Just as Motorola needed to walk away from Iridium. Iridium was a money pit with no hope of becoming profitable, they even talked about just dropping the sats into the ocean. On the...

Filing alleges Dolan created fake group

Because, as has been well reported in the press, Little Jimmy did a back room deal and sold the sat. That is why Charles was off in Colorado trying to get Ergen to call off the deal. Had he been successful then he likely would have come up with the funds to buy Voom in its entirety. I...

Filing alleges Dolan created fake group

Selling Voom may have been the right thing for CVC, but the way it was handled was probably not in the best long-term interests of everyone. Jimmy likely could have sold the entire operation for considerably more than he received by pawning the bird seperately. Instead of $200mil he might...

    From this mornings SKY Report....

According to the WSJ, some are speculating that CableVision's move on Adelphia is in part a ploy. Charles will agree to back off if Comcast agrees to carry some of the Voom programming. Thus, you could likely see Voom programming on cable before you see it on satellite. Ergen has already...

Filing alleges Dolan created fake group

He protected the day traders whose vision does not extend beyond next quarter. By your logic, both E* and D* should have been shut down long ago. Even without Voom, CableVision is a business disaster and James track record is hardly enviable.
