    My Dish Experience (BAD)

Hey, I just shared MY personal experience. You must be a lucky guy, or are not a former Dish subscriber, so you go to a different cue (for new succers:-), where they are faster and nicer. Also, unless you are an installer or a dealer (also a different cue), having to call "over 15 times"...

    My Dish Experience (BAD)

Called Dish today. Had forgotten how bad they were: after half an hour wait, I got a rep who had no idea what Voom or Voom channels were. He transferred me to another department, but since nobody picked up, after 20 minutes I gave up. Called back later. Less wait, but the woman who answered...

Thank You letters to VOOM and Charles Dolan

Voom was television worth watching. Before Voom I had been a Dish subscriber for over 7 years, mostly by force of habit and I had all but stopped watching TV. Voom 21 changed this, alas for too short of a time. Thank you for the best (by far) programming and a great service.

POLL: After VOOM, who will be your provider?

Without the Voom 21 programming, I am not going back to E* (was with them for over 7 years, blah). The others are not even an option: D*'s PQ IMHO is worse than E*, and my cable is the worst of them all. So I just got an AverMedia HD Tuner card for my MCE 2005 to be able to get all the OTA HD...

    Charlie Chat and Voom 21

Yeah, well, Gallery and Equator are actually great, and even Auction has some very good shows. Monsters and Kung Fu are not really my cup of tea, never saw anything I wanted to watch on them, but guess they have an audience too. Lab was really the only one one that I felt could be axed, but I...

    Charlie Chat and Voom 21

Hm, I've had 7 years of Charlie chatting. That's a lot of chatting, but little doing. Give him another 5 years of chatting, then maybe we'll see couple of extra HD channels. Of course, he'll compress the hell out of them, so they all look like c**p, so we'll all be forced to pay $5 for...

I've just received this email from Voom...

"No major change?!!?" Oh, not really, just going from TV and PQ actually worth watching, to c**p PQ and c**p content. No major change at all.... I don't think you get it. If I wanted D* or E*, I would have stuck with it. But both are c**p, really. Maybe in 5-7 years they might be where Voom...

What happens Apr 18--autopsy, funeral, or burial?

Exactly my experience. Voom 21 has content that you can't get anywhere else. It is TV worth watching. Even if not everything was for everyone, there was enough of a variety to please most. I can't see myself going back to E* or D* without something like the Voom 21 package. I have Netflix...

What happens Apr 18--autopsy, funeral, or burial?

Wow, how many movies a day do you watch:-) Actually, the movie channels are just fine, since they show stuff that is not generally available elsewhere and sometimes is not even on DVD. The real loss to me is Equator, Gallery, Rush, RAVE, Auction and yes, the movie channels..., I liked them...

    Another Move????

This is a bit unfair to Voom as an entity and those who work at Voom. Cablevision and its management are the ones who would have been giving the orders upon Voom would have been required to act, so they are the ones deserving of most of your ire. Also, Dolan Sr. seems to have put up a...

Anything is possible but in all fairness...

I'd been with Dish for over 7 years before I switched to Voom. Without the Voom HD exclusives, neither D* or E* are getting me back: there is just so little I watched there and the PQ was just so pathetic on a larger monitor. Between Netflix and the Internet, I think I'll just stick to HD OTA...

    Cablevision agrees to end Voom

I think what he meant was that the content providers would require your TV to be able to serve as a "trusted component" to be able to receive the full HD resolution, which means DVI or HDMI only, and not component. But, as I said, at some point it will be simply a matter of a software hack to be...

    Cablevision agrees to end Voom

This is just silly. It is hard to start a new business in the face of tough competition. Dolan has had to deal with public shareholders, with his son who actually runs the company, the board, etc. I think he may have done a better job of Voom had it been a private company, but even the way...

    Cablevision agrees to end Voom

DVI has too many problems on too many TVs, plus many like the component PQ better. But I wouldn't worry too much about new equipment (Toshiba?): I thought it is already broken, which means you should be fine with a little software help.

    Cablevision agrees to end Voom

Newspapers have been wrong before: remember Mark Twain:-) Who knows what will happen. If Voom goes dark, then I'll believe it. Until then, why loose sleep, unless watching Voom late at night. Just enjoy the ride. It's still the best TV I've seen in the US (actually, in the world). If...

FaxUpdate April 6, 2005: Chuck Dolan Eyes More Time for VOOM

The bid for Adelphia is to "divert attention from the Voom issue... or ... to stall the Board..." Huh?!?!?! What genius wrote this?! This fax update on Voom really says absolutely nothing of substance. If I remember, these guys (SatBiz) have a lousy track record, at least on "the Voom issue".

Cablevision Disavows Dolan and Dish Offers No Aid

I like dragon's neighborhood :) Guess this is where he gets this syntax :D And his notable skills as a dbs tech :D :D And yeah, on his 19" B&W set DirecTV must look just fine.... Just have to wack it from time to time :yikes And if that doesn't work, well, he just gets to chase the wife...

Cablevision Disavows Dolan and Dish Offers No Aid

Of course you are welcome to speak, but what is this "as a dbs tech"? You seem to be addressing not technical issues with Voom, which would presumably be your expertise (although my last Dish tech didn't know his left from his right :D ), but financial and regulatory matters. If these were in...

Cablevision Disavows Dolan and Dish Offers No Aid

Sorry to rain on the group hug here:-) I remember when Dish came in and there were similar dire predictions that there is no room for another sat service and Dish would either die or be acquired by the competition. When I signed up for Dish, DirecTV had about a dozen times more customers...

    2 New Channels added

True, but the iPod was established as THE portable MP3 player without sinking to Wallmart. All I am saying is that Voom doesn't have to dumb down to such an extent to be successful. In fact, if it starts looking too much like D* and E*, there will be no reason to go to Voom over the competition...

    WGN & Starz Edge

Yeah, I have to agree with this. I understand why Voom is doing it, but I personally don't watch movies on SD channels anymore (pan&scan, fuzzy, etc.). The Voom exclusives and DVDs take care of the movie fare for me. Most of the rest is just a vast SDTV wasteland :yikes

    2 New Channels added

Not sure I agree with the Walmart angle for Voom. Apart from the fact that Walmart is hardly the driving force behind HD sales currently, Voom also competes through exclusive HD content, which would be have to be dumbed down to the point of loosing its value if it were to serve the Walmart...

    2 New Channels added

Maybe, if my first language was English, but it is not.... In any case, if I moved there to live, I would make an effort to learn Mandarin Chinese and within a few years would be able to communicate within the native culture, just like any other immigrant.

    2 New Channels added

Maybe the fact that statistically the education and income level of the average Hispanic is below that of the average American, and way, way below than that of the average NE Asian or Indian immigrant. Hispanics are a large market for many things, but maybe not for HD sets. Thus, maybe not for Voom.

    2 New Channels added

I did say that a couple of channels may be O.K., more would be misguided, since there is limited bandwidth (and Voom's forte is in HD, and not in ethnic packages, where Dish is way ahead) As I said, it appears that most of the Latino audience is covered by OTA (and radio). Not to debate a...
