Can we still add digital channels to Voom Receiver??

This week, the CBS affiliate began broadcasting HD. I've been trying to add it to the Voom receiver and haven't had any luck. Is that feature dead? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. HELP!!!

    New Move By Dolans

I'm curious as to what the Securities Exchange Commission is likely to do considering the value the Cablevision board put on the Rainbow Media's portion of the stock buyout deal. It's like they just pulled a number out of the air.

    Last VOOM Statement

Yeah, I was wondering if Dolan senior was reminding the rest of the board about the relative merits of bidding $17 Billion for Adelphia vs continued funding of Voom. Have to say, Cablevision's boardroom is more interesting than any reality show.

Cablevision: Voom shutdown to cost $100M-$130M

Probably thought they could sell them and offset some of their losses.

Are You Vooming Again On Dish Yet?

The only thing that makes sense is that Dish and other carriers get paid for running the programming. That was one thing I particular liked about Voom. It didn't have all these shopping channels, etc. On a totally different line of thought, has anyone ever run a scientific poll to find...

Are You Vooming Again On Dish Yet?

How many satellite dishes does this take? East or west coast??

Are You Vooming Again On Dish Yet?

Nope, not vooming again with Dish. This whole thing of having having 2 dish for 3 satellites which appears to be in a transition of having programming shuffled around to these and other satellites(re-aiming dishes?and line of sight issues), a DVR that although works has a finite life as the...

How do I recieve an OTA signal from a nearby market?

To keep the clutter down, I'd go with the rotator. Who really wants 2 OTA antennas and 3 dishes on their roof, then two receivers on their TV.

Are You Vooming Again On Dish Yet?

I almost agree with you ;) I don't miss the 10 movie exclusives. Most that stuff I didn't watch anyway. If Dish wants to only have 2 Voom movie channels and rotate the movies more often, your 942 can record it. Isn't that really a better use of bandwidth?? What I would like to see added...

    Not Happy with Dish HD

brian, Did you get a chance to check the output resolution to see if that was the problem?? If so, what were your findings?

    Not Happy with Dish HD

Wouldn't that create a problem with 4:3 material being stretched to fit the 16:9 display as many displays change aspect ratio to full once they receive a 1080i signal?

Opinions wanted from those who swtiched to Dish HD Package???

MichaelG Thanks for the update. I was never really satisfied with how Voom rebroadcast the SciFi channel for the same reasons you identified. One thing I'd like you to update us on, is when the 942 is up and working, how does it look. Sounds like the 811 receiver is reasonable good, but...

    What about us Charter Members!

I still think a tar and feather party at the next Cablevision board meeting would be appropriate. ;) As a charter member from Oct 2003, I remember hearing/reading that Voom couldn't go under as Cablevision with their deep pockets would keep it afloat. Now realistically, you do have to cut...

So, tell me about the 942 DVR

lol Sure didn't waste any words. Still concerned that the 942 isn't upgradable to Mpeg4. Strongly recommend a lease for this very reason. Let it be somebody else's boat anchor. ;)

    Voom OTA/Directv Question..

Me either. How about the 942 DVR? Does it provide for OTA digital and if so, how does it compare to the OTAs off of the Voom receiver?

    offer from dish...this is better!!!!

How does the reception of locals through the Dish satellite system compare to OTA's with an outdoor antenna. Does Dish compress them a lot??

    Now he Loves us LOL

Well, that's really cool. Wonder if Dish is planning on moving it. Do single satellite do a good job covering the entire country? Is there any concensus that they're should be seperate satellites for east coast/west coast(splitting coverage) in order to get the signal strength's strong...

    Now he Loves us LOL

How does that work??? Space shuttle?? I too have a tree problem keeping me from getting anything but 61.5. I was hoping that they'd leave Rainbow 1 where it was and load it up with all the HD.

DISH to carry all 21 in 2006

These companies are notorious about making promises and then not keeping them.

Anyone else a little bit pi$$ed about the voom/dish thing?

Am I pissed off, not sure yet. With a 61.5 satellite, I'm fine. But at 110 and 140, they're trees blocking reception. The HD DVR is nice, but what am I going to record, the "no signal" message? Although Dish will start off with the 10 Voom channels on 61.5, I have to ask what are they...

    OMG, I still have channels!!

I guess we can now say that we hung on until the bitter end.

    OMG, I still have channels!!

What time zone are you on? Other than OTA, mine died at 3:00 eastern.

new voom message on the screen now

Before committing to anything with Dish, I'd like to know in certain terms what picture and audio quality is going to be like. Since they're making you commit for a year, your best bet might be to wait till the transfer and see what happens to the signal.

    Screwed By VOOM

I'm sticking with Voom until lights out plus 7 days.(roughly May 7th). If Charles Dolan has some way of picking up the service, he probably is having to wait until Voom officially closes it.

Cablevision offer for Adelphia good as dead...?

The Bankruptcy Court Judge approved the $440 million breakup fee that Adelphia would have to pay if they don't go through with the deal. Looks like Cablevision isn't getting Adelphia. Maybe they should persue some kind of satellite service offering lots of HD programming. Nay, they...
