To Voomers everywhere- What happened in parody

Most likely, HD-DVD will not be the "next great thing". To most people, DVD at 480P is a great leap over VHS. This and the convenience of the small DVD discs is what caused DVD to take off in the first place. However, DVD at 1080i will not be the giant leap forward. Here's my opinion why: 1...

Will Voom go out with a bang?

I wonder if Voom will do something like air the "best of" on all of the 21 channels leading up to shut down? It would be a great way to generate at least some good will. Maybe a final "message from Charles Dolan" to air at the last hour on HDNews that will let us know how they plan to keep...

E-mail from Voom - Official Shutdown Notice

I think that HDNet and InHD were great back in the day (I have had HD service since I lived in South Florida from 98). When all we had were HBO and the D* demo channel, HDNet was great when we got it. Then we found out the only time we watched it was when we had people over and we wanted to show...

E-mail from Voom - Official Shutdown Notice

For some reason, Charter seems to test a lot of things here in Birmingham. We were the first to get HD service (a whopping two channels) in 2001, the On Demand, etc. The PQ is better than ever before here, not sure why. Before getting Voom last July, I thought it was pretty bad, but now it looks...

E-mail from Voom - Official Shutdown Notice

I already had Charter Cable install my HD DVR and 2 additional HD boxes. Now I find out the HD DVR is a whole house unit which will make stored content available on the other two boxes. This is in testing and will be available in the summer. In addition, I can add my own SATA hard drive at...

New shutdown notice, the 'Voom' screen:

The sad part of the story is that this country needed Voom. The FCC needed Voom, the US government as a whole needed Voom. As Voom upped the HD awareness and forced D*, E* and cable to really get into the HD market, more people would buy HD sets and the analog brodcast spectrum could finally be...

    Voom Customers Support Service

Still a great read. And, with all of the increased exposure, I would be surprised if the subscriber count isn't rising.

FCC: Joint Petition Filed to Deny Assignment of Licenses (Charles F Dolan)

I may be the only one, but methinks this is a great thing. If the FCC denies the transfer, it simply means CV has no option but to negotiate with Voom HD, LLC. to sell the whole enchilada. It also means the shutdown costs would skyrocket, again benefitting a sale to Voom HD, LLC. Now I am...

Another new SEC filing (CVC 8-k): Closing of Rainbow DBS business has been delayed!

Forgive me if this has been stated before, but posturing like we have seen happens on some scale "every single day" in business. As a business person (38,000 employees in the company I work for), former business owner (I only wish I was as good as Charles Dolan), and former stock market analyst...

VOOMllc.com down (Message: check back later..)

I would think one of the stipulations of the agreement to give Chuck more time was that they take down the VoomLLC web site to stop confusion. Plus, if the deal ultimately falls through, CV wouldn't want Chuck to sign up 5,000 more customers between now and Monday. It's a gesture of good will.

Another new SEC filing (CVC 8-k): Closing of Rainbow DBS business has been delayed!

Looks like Monday is the day. If the board (new board) voted last night to give Chuck more time, I would expect the voom.com site to be back up and running today.

Some good/bad News (Depending how you want to take it)

I once worked for a company that sold to new ownership- and we did not know it had been sold, only that our division was in bleak financial straits due to the loss of a huge contract. The current CEO sent notices to everyone that they were terminated effective a certain date a week or two in the...

Will Cablevision offer some VOOM HD content on the open market?

Maybe we should all e-mail CV and ask them to offer our favorites.... I would vote for Monsters HD Animania Equator Rave WorldSport and a Cinema 1 and 2 (or more with combined content from all Cinema channels).

Will Cablevision offer some VOOM HD content on the open market?

Since CV has a ton of movie rights, etc. through Voom, why would they not offer at least some channels on the open market? They already know how (they own WE, AMC and Sundance)? Maybe this is part of the reason the board voted not to "give away" Voom.

Breaking News: Flash From Voom Website: VOOM ceasing Operation by end of March

I wonder if there is any hope of at least some of the 21 HD channels staying alive and being offered to other companies? They already have AMC, WE, etc. They could offer Equator, Rave, Animania, Monsters and at least one "rolled into one" Cinema 10 channel. Maybe this should be a new...

Breaking News: Flash From Voom Website: VOOM ceasing Operation by end of March

I don't kow how many of you were around then (1995), but this eerily reminds me of my days loving the 3DO. A group of totally committed people flooded chat rooms then as well and had a hard time believing the inevitable.

Yeah, finally at the end there is some "compelling content" for MOOV.

Breaking News: Flash From Voom Website: VOOM ceasing Operation by end of March

I'll cry tomorrow, but right now, I am enjoying the hell out of this thread. Between the time I type this and press send, five new posts are there. Amazing! SatGuys has to be setting a traffic record today, but I wonder what it will be tomorrow?

If not mistaken, today being the first and the 31st being the end of March is EXACTLY 30 days.

This Just In - Voom Not Dead Yet!

I have been sure this was going to work out well, but right now, I just don't see it. If Voom lost $450M ( I am assuming this was for the year?), how can they survive adding 20,000 subs per quarter? Even if they have 100,000 subs @ $60 each per month average = $6M per month That's only $72M...

MORE BREAKING NEWS: Cablevision files SEC Form 8-K

I guess with VOOM being a sponsor that satelliteguys didn't want to ruffle their feathers. I for one don't see anything wrong with that. I personally thought this board is better than most. Hey, the average person on here hates to see VOOM go away. They probably will, but you have to admit VOOM...

    This Is Huge!!!

One thing I left out- there seemed to me to be no hope of keeping the VOOM Sat service alive. We're oout of luck. Maybe part of the deal will be E* taking on the Voom originals and making us a nifty programming offer (I'll bet funded by CV).

    This Is Huge!!!

OK, I got a return call from an escalated service call and spoke with a technical trouble shooter. This person was not a CSR, and knew alot more about Voom than any CSR I have ever talked to. I asked about what was going on and he indicated no one knows anything defintitive. However, as we were...

VOOM STB on the backcover of Dell catalog

EDTV is indeed 480p. Dependent on the type of display, etc. most can do 720p and 1080i by downconverting them to 480p. Most entry level plasma displays are EDTV. I have one in my Family room and it does a great job with HD. Interestingly, it looks much better to have Voom set at 720p than to...
