    Someone SAVE VOOM

Chrysler was/is a multi-billion dollar corporation with thousands of employees and it would have had a major negative impact on the national economy if it failed. Voom going under will have almost no impact to the national economy.

    Dolans new dish

It could mean that he will be really torqued when they call for directions, show up 4 hours late, don't have a ladder, etc. Of course that will be after (at least) two no-shows. Too much to ask that it would be him personally waiting for them, but in reality it would probably be someone else...

Some good/bad News (Depending how you want to take it)

I deinstalled several weeks ago, just after the satellite sale was announced. The DishNetwork installer took down the Voom refelector (a 28") but used the existing Voom mount and OTA antenna. I removed the Voom receiver then called for deinstall. The guy showed up on a Sunday morning (by...

VOOM Might be gone as early late this week

Floundering companies My wife has had the misfortune of working at failing companies and being laid off twice. The first time was a total surprise to everyone - one day they suddenly could get no financing. The other company died over a two year period, had several layoffs, was selling...

VOOM Continues Marketing - Gaining New Subscribers

Well - I cancelled on Sunday so that's 139 net. I'll bet their cancellation rate is way up, perhaps higher than their new subscriber rate...

MORE BREAKING NEWS: Cablevision files SEC Form 8-K

I am jumping ship already I had made the decision to go with Voom over Dish last June, and it was a tough decision. I have been less than pleased with the quality and reliability of Voom though the number of HD movie channels is decent (the rest of the HD is just filler). So - I went out...

    VOOM adds 5 new channels!

If you still have the original puny dish, it MIGHT improve the rain fade but won't eliminate it. I base this on the fact that upgrading to my 28" did not appreciably reduce rain fade - and the height on it is probably more than the height of the oval dish. The width of the oval won't matter...

Getting new software V726, are you?

Other firmware problems Besides the caller ID issues, I have noticed a couple of other problems. Twice when flipping through the guide it got confused - I would page through it but if I tried to arrow down to a specific channel it got confused as to which page it was on. Then I noted that I...

I now have a UHF remote for my Voom STB - here's how

I should have followed up on my original post. The UHF transmiiter module work for about a month and a half, then stopped working. I figured it was a dead battery - but no luck.

    Voom New Channels

Based on past experience, you end up with CSR's making stuff up on the fly when they are frustrated about not being told anything. They hear rumors and repeat them - of course with their opinion thrown in. Voom could fix this by giving them weekly written status on new channels, the oval dish...

New Download 2.11 software tonite (back to 6.20)

OK - anyone taking bets on which will happen first: We have a president selected We have a verdict on the Peterson trial We have our new Voom firmware

When are the elliptical dish coming?

Another way to look at it is if Dish buys Voom, uses the new transponders, then eliminates any duplicate SD content - then they won't need MP4/WM9.

    new dish rain Fade???

Sounds like they are clueless in saying that a STB change will fix rain fade, but it is true that an LNB change to a better LNB could increase the signal - but last I heard no better ones were available...

Larger dish to face huge test this evening.

Sure - if the only goal of the sat companies was to eliminate rain fade, they could launch satellites with more power but that would require larger and more expensive satellites, or fewer transponders. They are unlikely to do that just to eliminate rain fade. It's a matter of diminishing...

Good News And Bad News...wow!!! (All Coming from CSR. Take it as you will)

DirecTV may have exclusive access to live feeds, but note that the CSR claimed delayed feed of the game later in the week.

    How is your 24" dish?

The loss caused by rain flowing between the dish and the LNB is so minimal I doubt it can be measured (though snow accumulation on the dish surface can reduce the signal). Rain fade is caused by rain/snow/heavy clouds between the dish and the satellite. Think of this as a + and - deal. If...

Larger dish to face huge test this evening.

Logic tells us this - but - when they upgraded me to a 28" dish, my OTA signal level increased substantially. The only explanation I could come up with is that my OTA antenna is near my dish and the dish is acting as a reflector. I watched the install and he did not touch the OTA antenna. Weird...

Larger dish to face huge test this evening.

The 24" and 28" dishes that have been shipping are meant to increase gain. They are slightly oval but taller than they are wide, and are not the oval multi-sat dishes that are promised. Those dishes will be much wider than tall and will provide gain as well. Still - even with my 28 incher...

Larger dish to face huge test this evening.

I got the upgrade a few weeks ago (probably the same as yours) but I still do get rain fade. I even tried repeaking - and in SE South Dakota I still only get a signal strength of 84-85 (no diplexor).

Is it REALLY that hard to fix the low volume on FoxNews?

Sure - they CAN - but Voom has stated that their policy is not to. They seem to figure that they should just pass throught the signal unaltered, saying it is up to the source provider (FNC in this case), not up to Voom. They should get with the program since their competitors do it...

We are talking about an additional remote, not the replacement of a faulty remote. Or are you suggesting something unethical?

I now have a UHF remote for my Voom STB - here's how

Yes - the 4DTV remote would also work, but it sells for $49 (cheapest I found anyway) and the buttons are not quite the same.
