From what I read on LyngSat, Dish uses 8PSK on transponders carrying HD only, whereas Voom uses 8PSK for everything. DISH uses QPSK on their transponders carrying SD. But yes, the big deal is the encryption: VOOM uses TWO standards: Motorola's DigiCipher II and the NDS Videoguard system...

Hrmmm, you got me thinking. Doesn't the FCC's Local-Into-Local requirement only apply to DBS-band providers? If by some crazy chance they do move all their service exclusively to Ku-band AMC-6, is Voom no longer required to supply Local-Into-Local? They could then re-enter the DBS market...

The dish would be fine, but we would need a new LNBF (low noise block/feedhorn): Rainbow 1 uses circular polarity, and AMC-6 uses linear (horizontal and vertical) polarity. -Dan
