    Dolans new dish

I vote that Installs, Inc. cancel its contracts with local installers who are continuously late, cancelling, or rescheduling appointments. "3 Strikes and You're Out" seems appropriate to me! -Dan

New Channels Added! (BBC, Noggin, etc...)

I remember reading that it's up to the local PBS member station if they multicast PBS Kids or their other channels (like PBS You for continuing education). On the plus side, they are all up in the clear if you have a Ku-band dish and a DVB receiver. -Dan

    New channels coming soon?

There is one other 24/7 HD source: The PBS HD channel. True, it's available OTA in many places, but not everywhere. And, unlike the commercial networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, UPN, WB), PBS HD is 24/7. Always widescreen, a mix of upconvert and native HD stuff. I wonder if PBS would agree to...

Need the Following information From Voom Subs

1- Component YPbPr converted to Component RGBHV (STB set to NATIVE, so 1080i on HDs, 480i on SDs, and 480p on Music Choice) 2- Sony SuperData front CRT projector: no native resolution, inputs max out at 1250 progressive

All SD & HD Channels moved to Harmonic Encoder

Maybe the encoder swap out is why Starz HD East/HD West/SD East and Sunshine Sports are ITC? (I'm not in the south --therefore ineligible for Sunshine-- and only have the regular Voom package, not VaVaVoom.)

Voom Originals website - Feb. update!

Looks like the update is happening right now -- there were some bad links on their images a moment ago. http://www.voom.com/vhdo/hdcx/index.jsp Note the mention of Black History Month and February air dates in the text... -Dan

1/26/05 E* Retailer Chat News Regarding Newly Acquired Frequencies

From what I read on LyngSat, Dish uses 8PSK on transponders carrying HD only, whereas Voom uses 8PSK for everything. DISH uses QPSK on their transponders carrying SD. But yes, the big deal is the encryption: VOOM uses TWO standards: Motorola's DigiCipher II and the NDS Videoguard system...

    Reality Check Observation!

Hrmmm, you got me thinking. Doesn't the FCC's Local-Into-Local requirement only apply to DBS-band providers? If by some crazy chance they do move all their service exclusively to Ku-band AMC-6, is Voom no longer required to supply Local-Into-Local? They could then re-enter the DBS market...

    Echostar's Use of Rainbow-1 Satellite

Thanks dude...I have to admit, it is hard to figure out who owns rights to various transponders at 61.5 West. I based it on actual LyngSat reported usage, but I see now that it doesn't tell the whole story! -Dan

MORE BREAKING NEWS: Cablevision files SEC Form 8-K

The dish would be fine, but we would need a new LNBF (low noise block/feedhorn): Rainbow 1 uses circular polarity, and AMC-6 uses linear (horizontal and vertical) polarity. -Dan

    Echostar's Use of Rainbow-1 Satellite

HI all, Here's some info for the techies. First, keep in mind that the FCC licenses use of the DBS frequency band based on 32 frequency slivers of the band. Each of these slivers is broadcast by an individual transponder on a satellite. Of all the 32 slivers available at the 61.5...

    The End of VOOM?

Voom doesn't own AMC-6, they leased space on it from its owner, SES Americom, and then the marketing department at Voom gave this leased space the marketing name "Rainbow 2". SES Americom is not up for sale. AMC-6 carries traffic for other customers too -- See LyngSat...
