Rather's HDNet News Program Set for Nov. 14 Debut

Caught the show and enjoyed it. It got quite a bit of national coverage, just go to Google News and search on Dan Rather. Articles in the Washington Post, MSNBC, NY Times, and several other media outlets. The NY Times story was very complimentary of the first program. The WaPo story tells...

    Let's talk about VOOM.

What I would like to see VOOM offer is another English-language movie channel. Right now they have World Cinema and Kung Fu, which are predominantly foreign language channels. They have a horror channel, Monsters. And they have one general purpose, all other genres except horror, movie...

    Let's talk about VOOM.

A 720p set will downconvert 1080i material to its native resolution. The lower quality the 1080i source, the lower quality the downconversion will be. Let's say we take a movie that was converted to a 1920x1080i digital format, then strip out 1/3rd of that digital information & send it out...

    Let's talk about VOOM.

I am fairly certain, but could be wrong, that the current VOOM channels are being sent at 1280x1080, not 1440x1080. Last fall when a few of them were at 1920x1080, the video quality was excellent. It got worse when they were down-rezzed, but has since improved a bit as Dish has tweaked...

    Joss Whedon's Firefly

Wasn't there only 13 episodes? Kinda hard to get very excited about a half-season series that I've already seen on DVD. But I do like Uni picking up these type of programs.

    Star Trek Enterprise

There's always a chance, and eventually Sci-Fi will have to go HD, but right now they aren't talking about it. Seemingly nothing on the immediate horizon.

    Star Trek Enterprise

It's "Forever Knight" if you ever go to search for info on it. I know they released the first two seasons on DVD. The third season wasn't as good, as they gave in to management pressure to change the show and bring in new exciting (young, sexy) characters. The whole series occasionally gets...

    Star Trek Enterprise

I'd like to see an HD channel that used a lot of stuff from Spike TV, Sci-Fi, UPN, and WB. Show all that you could in true HD, and the rest in upconverted, highest possible quality, OAR SD. Feature a lineup of multiple Star Treks, SG-1, Atlantis, Battlestar Gallatica, Buffy, Angel, Babylon-5...

    Star Trek Enterprise

The DVD quality of the earlier ST series is decent. So at the least, if they was upconverted (and not stretched!!!) and transmitted at a high bandwidth, they would yield a pretty decent picture. I believe the DS9 quality was pretty good, and was recorded in 16:9. I know some of the SG-1...

    Kung Fu & Subtitles

As I said before, I have watched many foreign language movies with sub-titles. As I type this, I'm watching "The Beast" which has sub-titles (although the "Russians" speak in English ... very strange), giving it about 95% of my attention (and I have watched it before). But I don't find the...

    Kung Fu & Subtitles

I'm not a fan of the Kung-Fu channel and would love to swap it back for Guy TV. But once in while, I do check it out. Of late, most of the movies have had English sub-titles. As I frequently "watch" TV while using a laptop, and thus don't give many movies my full attention, I rely upon...

FILMFEST HD: JAMES BOND HD (17 Titles)

I was in a bar last year with 8 other guys and we were discussing the various Bonds. Moore was listed as the least favorite on 7 of 9 ballots. Too bad Dalton didn't do more Bonds, I thought he was far more believable as a British secret agent than the cartoonish Moore. Fleming never wrote the...

    I am addicted to RAVE!!!

I like RAVE, and I even like the fact that it shows a lot of repeats. Given how few hours a 942 can record in HD, I don't want to record a lot of concerts. RAVE's frequent repeats allows me many opportunities to catch my favorite concerts and has been quite handy.

    Funny EPG Descriptions

The description for "It's Alive!" "A couple's first baby emerges with fangs, wrecks the delivery room, then goes after a milk truck." My oh my, does that sound scary!

    Funny EPG Descriptions

I was browsing channels tonight and saw that Monster HD was showing the original Bela Lugosi 1931 "Dracula" movie. I nearly busted a gut when I read the movie description: "A real-estate man visits the Transylvania castle of a 500-year-old vampire." True enough, but I think I could have...

If you don't have Voom Get it now!

I've been a sub of VOOM since last July and still like it a lot. I do watch Gallery and Equator, but not Ultra or Rave. I too wish I could trade Kung Fu for Guy TV. That was a terrible trade in my book. I watched Guy at least 5 times as much as I watch Kung Fu.

So where is the GuyTV movie content now?

As I have only the 10 VOOM channels from the old HD Pak, I feel like I lost a movie channel under the new format, as I rarely ever watch the Kung Fu channel. I really like FilmFest and Monster and would love to have GuyTV back. I still have a couple recordings of the Guy TV girls cleaning the...

    Will Equator ever look good?

I thought it was very, very good back in Sep-Nov of last year.

    FilmFest: An Opinion

I tuned into the 1959 movie "Li'l Abner" just to check out the video quality. Wow! High definition long legs and low cut dresses all over the screen!

    FilmFest: An Opinion

Okay I've had a little time to evaluate the movies offered on the new FilmFest channel and must say that I like what I see. This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite channels. Nice diversity, some smart foreign films, several movies that I've never heard of before. I'm so pleased with...

KungFu HD and FilmFest HD now on Voom

I believe it is Film Fest. So, how big of an audience is there for kung fu movies? I can watch a good martial arts movie, but there seem to be so few of them. Most are the same plots worked over and over again, with a lot of blood thrown in.

Probably Starting 1/3/06 Majestic & GuyTv HD 3 movies per day!

The good news for Guy TV is that there will be 3 movies per day. The bad news is that there will be 3 kung fu movies per day. I like the present format much better. But even if it means that I stop watching this channel, it is good news that the other movie channels will be airing 3 per day...

Voom off air early Tuesday morning

Did anyone have an outage last night (Wed night)? I had VOOM on continuously from 9pm to 1:45am (CST) and there was no outage. This was off of 61.5.
