What do you mean, no DVR from Voom??? Where did you hear that?? Just kidding with you. I'd like to believe the service will somehow continue and we'll all have our DVRs in a few weeks. We all have our own realities.

JVC SR-W5U around $4,200 right, a bit pricy.

Before knocking yourself out trying to build a HD recordable computer, it seems that JVC has a HD recorder which uses the component inputs.

That's what I was thinking too. Would you rather have a $549 box that'll become not much more than a doorstop in the near future, or spend $1,000 for something that last for many years to come??

I'm somewhat surprised (and pleased) that the Voom email support person indicated that the DVR was still coming out. Has anyone else (hopefully with contacts) verified this?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the JVC DVHS recorders accept firewire from one of the Scientific Atlantic cable boxes??

From my understanding of the technology, the few HD recorders that are around record via firewire input. But still no 5.1 audio. The Voom receiver doesn't have firewire output.
