TWO better choices Well, better to ask and be told "no", than waste money on a junker and be stuck with it. . There is an S2- & AC3-capable receiver discussed at length on the forum in the $60 range. Its a little buggy, but a far better value. And then there's the one from SatelliteAV, with...

New Product: Titanium Satellite C1-PLL C-Band Phase Lock Loop LNBF

The Titanium has a heat sink on it. Must run hot. That should evaporate any condensate. :) . Only a problem on offset dishes, I think. On a prime feed (center focus) dish, the lnbf should always point "down". .

Have You Ever Actually Measured Your Dish Size?

Area isn't particularly a factor. Increase in dish width, results in decreased beam width. So, less interference from the next satellite over.

Have You Ever Actually Measured Your Dish Size?

This is one of the reasons "equal sized" commercial dishes outperform many hobby dishes. (as described above, they're not equal size) ...and of course , there are also other reasons. ;) .

FTA receivers that accept BISS keys?

A while ago "Brian" talked about a future pll c band lnbf. "Titanium" announced it. Was obvious to me. :) . And now we return to the topic of this thread: BISS key-capable receivers. ...sounds like hacker-fodder to me.... ;)

I wrote most of the FAQ called Switches Simplified, and the minute someone says "splitter", I see red! :) . Which dual lnbfs and what switch configuration are you using? .

This is hardly Titaniums first rodeo. He knows well what he is doing, and hasn't missed a trick. I'm sure he appreciates all the enthusiasm, interest, and encouragement. :up . As soon as his container arrives, you can bet we'll all be very pleased with his efforts and arrangements. ;) .

    Ku-setup

There WERE some stupid mods that turned old DN receivers into very poor FTA boxes. Dumbest use, ever. There 're plenty of crappy old FTA receivers that would be better.

    Ku-Dish through glass

Expensive window screen material is metal, and should certainly shield you from RF. Cheap window screen material is fiberglass mesh, and will probably pass the signal. (you might go to Home Depot with your old screen, and have a new one made with fibreglass) . Your actual mileage may vary. ;) ...

    c-band on small dish?

It's well worth reading the thread on used BUDs to get a handle on what we recommend, and what value we place on 'em. It's a learning experience; not all BUDs are created equal. . As for multiple lnbs on one dish, or multiple receivers, I would suggest getting some experience first. Dual output...

    c-band on small dish?

We have a thread to connect you with a used BUD at a bargain price. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/304781-more-Craigslist-dishes-for-your-perusal I recommend spending about $100 on a nice 8-10' dish & motor. We have plenty members who spent that or less. . Never ask a 1m dish to work on...

    c-band on small dish?

There have been numerous (long) threads on the subject. What's posted above is the tip of the iceberg. I'd suggest you take a few days and research. . Then perhaps you'll take a few weeks and find an 8 or 10 foot BUD. :up

    step right up...

Many years ago, I had about a dozen 18" DirecTV dishes & lnbfs to test. They were new, but half were for a friend who lived out of town. I wanted to make sure they all worked before delivery. . Out in the back yard, I connected a powered coax to a $10 meter, then the first dish & LNBF. By hand...

    Wanting to get into FTA

What you have sounds like a pretty good start. :up And your experiences as installer will be helpful. (Especially Ka for DirecTV). But setting up a motor/receiver are still challenging. Tolerances (plumb mast, for instance) are critical. Ku FTA birds are 2 degrees apart, not the 9 you are...
