    The 4dtv is not picking the guide up from each satellite. The guide comes from a specific satellite and is downloaded to the receiver nightly.

    One more time, No. Not for consumer use only. It's just a feature of the unit. It might be capable of "ku only" for business users, though. It's also possible, if you have the correct equipment, to upload your own maps to the unit. But the software that used to allow this, no longer works...

    The polarity of a virtual channel is based on the underlying transponder that it is associated with. A poorly adjusted skew setting on the underlying transponder and a strong signal could cause the results that you are seeing.

    There are some signal on both C and Ku, but a 4DTV MUST be able to receive C band so that it can download the channel maps it needs to operate. It also can't move a dish, so any receiver it is paired with, must be able to move the dish.

    The Dish signal isn't always encrypted. Also, it was real nice to have when Voom was still around. They were always testing their signal and dropping the encryption.

    They are probably straight transport streams. Most viewers capable of mpeg2 video should work. You might need to change the extension from PVR to MPG though.

    About the only one still in production in is the Motorola DSR-922. What are you actually trying to do with the setup? Is there a specific channel that you are hoping to get? You might need a commercial receiver instead. If you want to see more than one sat, you'll need a polar mount...
