    Looking for ideas and input

Hi Radar Now this is an interesting project. As I see it the big problems are heat loss from tank's water surface area and keeping the 1165 gallons a constant temperature throughout. Insulation is clearly the answer for constant temperature together with water flow. As you say you don't have to...

US studies reusing old dead satellites. AP Story

I agree, I can't imagine any retrieveability being commercially viable, satellites are outdated so quickly. In order to obtain a license to provide telecommunications services in the United States, the FCC requires all geostationary satellites launched after March 18, 2002, to commit to moving...

Not only are you out of range, I'm guessing you have a Meo or Canal package and unfortunately many of their programs are not available on any US satellite providers. Best option is to find a stream for your favorite programs via the internet.

    New GEOSATpro microHD Receiver

Brian > Just so we are all on the same page here, is it possible for you to do a post covering the current spec. It is getting difficult to keep going back over all the pages and I am conscious I don't want to be asking something already dealt with. I do have a concern on the 22khz feature in...

    New GEOSATpro microHD Receiver

Brian - these days there are many "tail wagging the dog" developers / manufacturers producing equipment with built in obsolescence and telling us it is a must have, leaving the public to be the quality control. How great it is to see the customers able to have discussion with the developer...

    Took lightning strike

Indeed it was Mike Holt that agreed with me on the question of grounding dishes and has instigated a review of the codes. I published his email on this forum. There is a huge differential between static and surge grounding vs Lightning conduction and Conky sums up surge protectors and...

    Took lightning strike

sergei LNBs generally fail due to static in a lightning storms. Grounding blocks are designed to deal with static but do not guarantee to save LNBs. Direct lightning strikes on Ku dishes are a whole different ball game and it is far better to fit properly sized lightning conductor grounds...

    Took lightning strike

Most LNBs, certainly Ku are plastic and plastic mounted so gounding the coax shield provides no protection to the dish, mount or pole. Grounding the coax cable is supposed to prevent the cable fry entering the house but of course in most cases the cable is attached to the house structure for...

Losing DVB-S2 signals during the day

My understanding was that depolarisation on Ku (linear only) occurs in the ionosphere due to ionised electromagnetic Faraday rotation. In the lower troposphere Ku (lin & circ) particularly encounters resonant absorption due to oxygen in water vapour, in addition to the attenuation due to...

    Cheapest sat Id meter?

I was wondering why that NBC crew were turning the dish for skew thru over 90 degrees, surely they knew they are virtually on the the 0 meridian and Telstar is has only a few degrees of skew. To set up right behind a lamp post seemed a little strange too.

Birdog USB with Win CE or Linux?

I am not sure whether Birdog or Horizon in the UK are the original manufacturer but both might be worth an email. A linux driver might well be of value to them as well if you can get it coded
