    usefulness of old analog receiver?

I have an old analog receiver (a Pansat BR-1000), that I'm not using. Are these old receivers worth anything, would anybody still want one? I'm wondering if I should bother to eBay it, if I should take it to the local Goodwill, or whether it ought to just go in the trash. Thanks for any info!

Still searching for that first bird...

Woohoo! Pointing the dish lower solved my problem! I was able to quickly vector in on the strongest signal using the satellite finder (which was pointing right at the side of my house), and then after removing that from the line I picked up CCTV in all of it's Chinese Language glory! The...

Hmm, interesting. I'll have to try pointing my dish lower, because I too have the LNB towards the bottom of the dish...

I don't really understand what you mean by that... the way I'm figuring the angle is by basically sighting down a level to the highest point of the trees, and verifying that this is about 10 degrees lower than where my dish should be pointing. What do you mean that the angle seems, "higher"...

Still searching for that first bird...

I used a level with a degree measurement thingie in it to verify that the trees I'm looking at should be below the line of sight to the satellite, so I don't think that's my problem. Let me recap exactly what I have set with this Vistar 2000 receiver trying to get CCTV4 on G3C. This is a...

Still searching for that first bird...

Well, I spent this afternoon looking for G10R, just in case I would have better luck with a South facing satellite. Still no go, however I also have distant trees in that direction. What is the most powerful westerly satellite to search for? I have a completely clear field of view to the...

Still no luck... Thanks for all the advice guys. So, I went out again and spent all morning trying to get a signal, and I still got no dice. I can't get the SF-95 satellite finder to vary in intensity by more than 1/2 a number (e.g. it goes from 4.75-5.25), and I can't get any signal on the...

Still searching for that first bird...

Thanks for the tips guys. Do any of you know, when I press the "info" button on the Viacast and see the screen (which always shows strength = 92 and signal = low for me), does it auto-update regularly? Basically, I haven't gotten it to show anything except No Signal. If I were to point it at...

Still searching for that first bird...

Well, after jumping into the world of FTA because it sounds so cool and easy, I have dropped money on various cables, a receiver, and an LNB, plus many hours pointing the dish here and there looking for a sign of life, and I have yet to actually find anything :-) My goal: I'm trying to get...

RCA universal dual LNB with FTA?

Hi- I'm wondering if the RCA dual universal LNB I see for sale on eBay in a bunch of different auctions would work for FTA, Ku band. Also, if it would work, does anybody know whether it is any good or not? My current LNB is a single .9dB and I'm wondering if this would be a good upgrade...

    Newbie can't find a signal

OK, that narrows it down to 2 options :) How do I know whether to use the vertical or the horizontal number? Is this based off the little bold H on LyngSat? Thanks!

    Newbie can't find a signal

Thanks for the tips on finding the symbol rate guys. How did you come up with the number 18 above for LNB Power (polarity)? Is it a coincidence that about matches my mag. deviation? Also, any additional feedback on just how accurate I have to be in pointing at the satellite to get a signal...

    Newbie can't find a signal

Hi All- I'm new to the world of satellite TV, and looking forward to enjoying a new set of tech. gadgets and TV channels :-) However, right now I'm really struggling. My first mission is to get channel CCTV4 on G3C, and after spending a number of hours, I have yet to see anything but a...
