I have no confidence in Voom being able to upgrade all the subs to the new dish by 3/05. Heck I got tired of waiting for my 24" upgrade and figure I can live with the occasional rain fade.

OTA, if your station doesn't multicast, will usually be better than what you get on satellite due to recompreession and other bandwidth saving shenanigans.

I just realized I see the same mosquito noise on OTA ANALOG. This doesn't look as bad as OTA analog of course since the resolution is higher, but it's the same thing. That's the thing I noticed right away when I first went from analog to digital OTA. No more mosquito noise. I wonder if...

since I never see those other problems with OTA channels (only microstutters), I don't think a s/w update will fix them. As crappy as the motorola box is, I don't think you can blame all the problems on it. Those problems are probably from the transmitting end.

directivohd is $1000 retail so it's reasonable. however, i think we're all hoping for a rental option :)

Unfortunately only two studios -- Fine Line and Dreamworks -- are releasing their movies in HD for PPV. So the selection for PPV HD is pitiful. If you mean SD PPV, I must ask: why? They look horrible. I wouldn't watch it for free :)

given the myriad of problems people continue to have with installation, actually CHARGING for it will really p*** people off. I hope Voom bites the bullet and continues with the free install. They may go with a 1yr commitment. Dish gives you multi-room free install but requires 1yr...
