Okay, I understand what both of you are saying. So, I will keep looking into a large dish but I still want to see if I might pick something. I get really amped when it comes to challenges. If things are too easy I get bored fast. So harshness, don't think I'm ignoring your advice. I get it, most...

You are probably right about me choosing a difficult project but the parts just fell into my lap so I basically decided to make it happen.

What sats can I get in Springfield mo? My receiver is a viewsat vs2000 platinum. Lnb is a chaprall most of the labels are to faded to read. As for the dish, it's a reclaimed Hughes net. Now I haven't changed the settings except turning the dish to the first signal I find.

I have a temporary jig set up for my lnb and it is getting a good signal (about 85 percent) but I can't seem to find any channels. What should I try next?

Right now I am using a point and pray method. I just use the signal indicators on the receiver. I think I might have to update the software on my receiver.

True, a tiny parachute still won't prevent impact, but right now I still don't know if I have a parachute or a sack of dirty laundry. So how can I see what I have if I don't look inside.

It's unfortunately a four foot dish. I'm trying to get my hands on a ten foot dish but until then I just want to get as much working equipment together as possible. So basically I'm just testing what I find and my own ability to figure out how to make it all work.

To use your parachute metaphor. I'm trying to see if it will open before I try to jump.

I'm back again with a crazy question. I found a chaprall c band lnb, it came from an old abandoned dish I saw at a house I was working on. I tried to get the dish to but it was in poor condition. Can I get this lnb working again on a small dish?

Great. And thanks for the the websites. I see a lot of the parts I want to start with and great prices. I'll probably be asking for more help as I am building and changing my setup.

Okay, thanks. Do you know if the old 8ft dishes can be used? I drove past one last night that is no longer in use. If it can be put back in service I might talk to the owner about it.

I'm surprised that the fta systems haven't been getting more attention. Without the help of all of you, I wouldn't be half as far with getting my setup going. Speaking of, I don't like doing internet purchases so, where can I get a catalog for a mail order company? Even a website that I can do...

Okay, I want to thank all of you for your help. You have given me a lot to think about. Now I have a big question, do any of you know of a brick and mortar shop that I can visit to find parts and equipment? I'm a hands on kind of guy and I like to see what I am buying when I buying it.

Okay, so the lnbf is my starting point. Now, I see that most of the ones suggested are pretty much a fairly reasonable price. Am I right that my biggest expense will be the receiver? And with a new lnbf, will I get enough signals to keep me entertained?

Well magic, if I had plans to head your direction I would be glad to pick up a dish. I will keep an eye out for unused dishes. So the old credit card dishes work? That's good to know.

I thought I would have to replace the lnb. I am hoping to get some use of the receiver if at all possible.

Thanks for the heads up magic static. I figured I would get a taste of what fta is like with what I could find laying around. To be honest with you, I'll probably good crazy trying to build a bigger and better set up as I go. For now I am tinkering with what I find. If I make this setup do...

I'm trying to set up a fta system as cheap as I can. I have a viewsat vs2000 platinum receiver and a hughesnet dish. Can I get this setup to work?
