Hopper OTA Adapter and Cable Question

Actually the OTA dongle or module acts like an early version of the 8VSB receivers in that it is very touchy on multipath, where the 8VSB spec changed to correct slight multipath. It is very apparent by my 5 yr old HDTV, which has the later spec and the OTA module. On the TV, there is not a one...

Combining 2 antennas UHF / VHF

Yes, for ch 11 watch out for fm in the 98-99 mhz range. The second harmonic is right on ch 11. We've used the pico Ho-Low vhf splitter to trap this out.

    Unusual DTV Signal Loss

A larger antenna or adding an amp can KILL your digital reception. Unlike analog, where a strong signal does not hurt, a digital signal can go to pot if too strong. Our VHF digital has one of the top strongest signals in the area (see TVFool.com ) and we use attenuators for several things. For...

Obama wants to delay the transition to DTV

Our analog UHF is close to 4 million watts. (That is ERP.. the actual xmtr power is 120kw. The one million is ERP, also, which is about 25k - 50kw, depending on antenna gain. Our digital VHF is at the FCC's highest power, 30kw erp with just under 4kw delivered to the antenna. Big savings in...

Can anyone reccomend a good indoor antenna for digital TV signals?

Go to Solid Signal | Digital Converter Boxes, DIRECTV® Systems, HDTV Antennas, DISH Network, satellite equipment and home entertainment supplies & accessories and look at some of the flat panels that look like a picture and hang on the wall. Rabit ears stink on digital. I know one person that...

Obama wants to delay the transition to DTV

The digital planning started over 10 years ago. While it's been less than 5 years that broadcasters have gone digital, it's been serious only the last year. But broadcasters are required to run crawls about it. While only in English, we are now required to run it in both English and Spanish...

    Wbbm Cbs 2 Chicago

Mostly the lower VHF band. And they are in the low band, it looks like. Well, the e Fcc is mainly staying at and above ch 7 for a couple of reasons. WBBM is probably waiting to switch to their main analog channel when analog shuts down in'09. It is hard to justify a cap purchase for 2 years if...

KXII delivers 2 hd and 1 sd channel at same time.

I would love to have one of those, but what happens when both HD's are running something with lots of action (road race with lots of dusts flying or a screen full of a fast crowd pan)? Both would want lots of action. What make is this newer generation. Our Tandbergs had the latest updates...

VHF and UHF HD signal troubles ... again

A UHF only will NOT pick up ch 7, usually. The market I work in has 2 v's, ch 11 and 13 (which are combined and go into the very same VHF antenna) and others on the same hill, no more than a 1000 feet away, on 35 through 49 U. Those with U only usually pick up 13V, but not 11V. A combo does all...

Los Angeles-KCET HD viewers time to complain to KCET

In contacting the FCC, stations are NOT notified until weeks/months later after it filters back and forth via the lawyers. First step is ALWAYS with the station. Note that nothing says data streams have to be backward compatible. There is stuff that says NEW receivers have to be compatible with...

KXII delivers 2 hd and 1 sd channel at same time.

Well, there is only 19meg of data available and to fit stuff into that, you have to either cut bandwidth of each, OR do HD LITE, which some refer to as SD widescreen, as it is nothing more than that. You can't do 2 HD's at full bandwidth in one digital broadcast channel. Period.

Just Switched to Dish - HAD OTA HD!!

How about going to Setup/ Locals and scanning for digital. Without that, you need to first plug in the actual over the air RF CHannel and not the digital channel.

How do you know what is HD signal on antennaweb.org

None of those CBS's are doing 5.1? Wow! NBC has hardly anything in 5.1 and most stations listed have it. We run both an NBC station and a CBS station in the same building and if we loose the encoder on CBS, we hear about it. On NBC, it hardly is noticed.

    Preamp lowers signal strength?

The signal strenght is not a stest of rf level, it is also a test of quality in digital receivers. The preamp can be distorting the signal while providing more gain. Do check if your HD TV's have a LNA (Low Noise AMp) built in. With that, just use a splitter and toss the preamp. Even without...

    Splitting Antenna signals

IF you are passing voltage from a power inserter to a preamp on the antenna, you need to either have the splitter before the power suppy (tv side) or use a spliter, as specified, with DC Pass built into one port. There is usually a line with the words "DC Pass" on the splitter that runs from...

    Bent CM 4228

On digital, signal level doesn't mean a thing until you get too close to the threshold or introduce too much mutipath by the bends. If you have an 80 level now, it won't look any different than a 95 did. Down to a 55 and you'll start to see errors. If analog, it means a snowy and ghostly signal...

    electrical breaker panel

This effect can also be from electrical interference. Anything that increased the BER can do breakup. Too much compression can do fuzzyness or some items stay in a new scene after the old scene is gone. The panel probably is NOT a problem unless there is a loose connection or bad breaker...

Is there such thing as too close?

While most digitals are UHF, in this market ALL analogs are UHF and 2 of the 7 Digitals are VHF. Our two stations are VHF, and it caused a problem when we went HD as most dealers sold UHF only antennas. They now recomment the correct antenna.

Is there such thing as too close?

Being too close is worse on Digital than Analog. We are 3 miles away from our Digital transmitters, and at the studio, have to attenuate the signals, else we get intermittent breakup. For our lobby, we used a cheap antenna to eliminate the problem.

    Multipath?

I have a multipath problem from a common antenna farm, that I have to use a rotor for to catch the signals as they bounce differently because of thier frequency. There are 3 V's and 5 U's. One V (the lowest) comes in at the same place but the other, 3 channels up at 13 does not and it is on...

One channel failed. Was CM antenna prob

In our market, 2 HD stations are VHF and I maintain both transmitters. The others are UHF, as in most markets. Well we have to overcome UHF only antenna's and questions such as "Why did you pick VHF when all analogs and other digitals are UHF" Of course, the FCC picked those for us...

    Signal won't lock on...advice needed

Are you still having a problem? From your location i doubt a preamp would help, in fact, it would probably cause problems in over driving the receiver. It is possible some stations lost their PSIP, which the receiver requires. Fir where you are, that antenna is great. I have not looked...
