FCC Seeking to Close Programming Access Loophole

What's bad for Comcast is good for America. Way to go FCC!

How many SatelliteGuys live in a Rural setting?

I live in a burb. Actually, it was its own town miles from Denver back in the 19th century, but everything grew up to it and beyond it. I've been here for 12 years and it is the best of both worlds (city and country). I have all the conveniences of the city within 10 minutes driving of my...

    Comcast digital box question

Am I reading this right, the Moto 6412 HD-DVR doesn't have an s-video out? Just DVI, component, and RCA.

    Digital Coax to Optical

Yes, the digital audio thing seems to be all over the map. My Sony receiver only accepts digital audio from a coax connection. Fortunately, both my DVD player and DVD recorder offer both digital audio options out. Why this stuff isn't standardized is beyond me.

    S-Video Splitter/Distribution Amplifier

Anyone know of a reasonably priced, but good quality S-Video Splitter / Distribution Amplifier? The only one I could find after several Google searches was an HRT 1 into 3 unit, but the lowest price I could find was $150. That's absurb for what it is, given that I purchased a good...

    Question about my Coaxial Cable

"In the wall" use labeling means that it meets minimum NEC/NFPA requirements for wiring run through walls as opposed to laid on the floor or tacked to the wall. It is a fire-spread potential issue. If you do some home theatre or sound wiring in your house and you run the wires between the...

RG6 Coax Connectors & Compression Tools

Got the tools last Friday. Unfortunately a day too late to help me with my latest project requiring new coax and connectors. Never received a reply from the vendor to either my VoiceMail message or my email message. However, the vendor did combine the orders into one shipment, even though...

RG6 Coax Connectors & Compression Tools

No the marking on the connectors that I received is DS6UT.09-03 rather than the designation on the web page I ordered from, DS6Q. I received the following response from CENCOM regarding the marking: So I can go ahead and use these connectors on my quad-shielded RG-6 coax. That is, if the...

RG6 Coax Connectors & Compression Tools

Hey rckowal, got the Digicon connectors from CENCOM, but something looks wrong. While they are GREEN, they are marked DS6UT rather than DS6Q. I ordered the connectors for quad-shielded RG-6. Is this normal? I emailed CENCOM, but haven't heard back. I don't want to use the connectors if they...

ESPN to double its HD output

They need to do something more than the boring Sports Center in HD. Outside of football season, HD, other than Sports Center, has been practically non-existent.

RG6 Coax Connectors & Compression Tools

rckowal, Thanks for the tip. I'm ordering the compression tool, flaring tool, and 10 Digicon connectors per your suggestion above. Did you purchase a stripping tool as well? Which one?

RG6 Coax Connectors & Compression Tools

Well I'm back to trying to find a reasonably priced professional type compression tool that can compress multiple brands of compression connectors on RG-6QS coax. I bought the NEW Zenith tool and a couple of their new connectors. The connectors are garbage compared to the ones they had out...

What is the future of OTA?

Unless there are network feeds to cable and DSB, the network HD you get via those sources will be the same as what is made available OTA. If your local network affiliate choses to broadcast an network HD feed in SD digital, that is all the cable and DBS guys are going to have also. The FCC...

Committee Passes Satellite Home Viewer Extension Act

If the bill passes and is signed into law, the FCC will be charged with creating the criteria for implementing the requirements of the bill (these bills are seldom quantitative, just qualitative and the devilish details are left to the implementing agency). After a year of study they will post...

Ground twice -- Good or bad?

You can ground it twice, but you need to have a grounding connection between your two grounds so that there isn't a difference in ground voltage on the system.

    RG6 question

The quote above was taken out of context. The actual quote is: At least as stamped on the cable and printed on the package, the Zenith quad-shielded RG-6 coax available at Lowes meets or exceeds every RG-6 spec I've seen discussed on this forum. That quote preceded several folks getting into...

    RG6 question

Since you asked, stamped on the Zenith RG-6 Quad-Shielded cable: CAROL (R) C5785 RG6 ... 18 AWG 75C SWEPT to 2.3 GHZ E60233-8 CL2--CATV--CM (UL) C (UL)--Made in USA 000018873 Which tells me this is General Cable's Carol brand C5785 coax, which has 18 Ga. Solid Copper Clad Steel w/ 2 100%...

    RG6 question

At least as stamped on the cable and printed on the package, the Zenith quad-shielded RG-6 coax available at Lowes meets or exceeds every RG-6 spec I've seen discussed on this forum. I've been pleased with its improved digital PQ performance versus the standard RG-6 sold at Home Depot.

    RG6 question

One thing I wouldn't give the cable guys credit for, at least in the analog days, is connector installation. Sloppy stripping and crimping and when the cable signal quality sucks, it is always your TV not their hookup. I went through that for several years at my old house. When I moved, the...

Zenith Compression Coax Connectors & Tool

I recently started using Zenith's quad-shielded, swept to 2.2 GHz, RG-6 coax for my various video transmission lines at my house. I also bought into Zenith's compression connector tool. Well, I love the connectors and on Zenith's premade sections they are bulletproof. But, the DIYS...

Does the Panamax 5100 have stage 3 filtering (i.e., digital as well as power and audio)? Let us know if it improves your PQ. If it does, I'll be real proud. If it doesn't, remember I suggested Monster.
