Is it just me - or does anybody else think it is absurd that Verizon wants to charge an extra $7 a month to activate a feature that runs on my own home network, and does not require a change in equipment? Why not just have a one time fee to activate the feature?

I have to wonder why anybody would want to keep the copper lines. The fiber comes up the NID (Network Inteface Device) outside of the house, from there it is copper as always (Cat 5 for the internet, and typical cable for the TV). It is not fiber to the TV or to the router, just to the NID.

Verizon FiOS service can be provided without a phone number - at least they have allowed me to do so. The only draw back of this is that you are required to put a Credit Card on file with them to automatically charge each month.
