What's a "true professional"? Installers please critique...!

Pint well made Van. That's why I recommend the local retailer or dealer and for the consumer to do research. Most people will look into any other project being done to their home, but satellite TV heck any 800 number or website will do. I charge a trip charge for a service call then proivide an...

    Birdog and downloads

Dodge, take The Tates advise.. only use Birdog.tv When you get everything programmed I'm sure you'll love the meter. Are you doing any D1000's yet?? If so and you are going to use the BNirdog... use the DP dual on the 119 to aim the dish, I have found that to be the easiest and that is what...

My dilemma .. thoughts to help please

Mojo, try talking to the owner or manager of the apartment complex.... they probably have a right of entry contract with a compant that is providing the service thru SBC. You could more then likely get ahold of that company and see about ordering the DVR and maybe suggest to them that they come...

Pros and cons of sat install job

Ask them if you can go on a ride along with one of their senior techs. See how old the senior tech is, I'm betting he's in his twenties. If they supply materials, sounds like a good deal. Just out of curiousity, what did they sya their pay rates were?? The $40 to $50k is probably working 6 days...

Getting a wire from dish in from balcony to apartment...

NYC... you may want to look in the phone book and call a couple of LOCAL retailers or dealers. Explain to them your situation and compare the solutions that are offerred. Heck, I would even ask them to come out and look at the condo. Some companies will do sight surveys for a small fee. Some...

Which Sat Co? Newbie looking for Advice

I agree with Navychop. If you don't need the DVr on all four TV's you could drop the 522 oe 625 and go with a standard 322. Try calling a local retailer or stopping by thier shop. I'm sure they would be more than happy to explain everything. As far as the old Voom HD channels on Dish, you will...

    just started as an installer

Go to the library, get a tax book and read it. I'm not sure if they would still have a 1040 booklet out but I bet they could get you one. After doing so, if you still have questions the IRS offers all sorts of free literature. Also, don't forget about self-employment tax. As far as the child...

Read About My Nightmare As A Dish Network Customer!

Sheridan, I agree with you, they should have thrown this fool out. But, hey I'm guessing they were looking to save a buck or two or were switching from DirecTV because DirecTv would'nt give them a FREE DVR. Looks like the dish is on the overhang and easy access, and I would bet that their...

Need a satellite post/pole. What's best to use?

How high up. When I use a pole I get inline post, like the ones you use for chain lenght fence. You can get various lenghts too, but I generalll use the 6 footers.

    Apex taking over for Express??

Neyko, I can understand your numbers, but even if you get 3 A3's a day your still looking at 10 to 12 hour days. Factor in your cost of gas and supplies and what are you "really" netting, I've heard that even if you drive a comany vehicle you will need to buy your own supplies. How good of work...

    Apex taking over for Express??

Hey Neyko and Dalos2004 I heard something like $48.00 an install plus $14.00 for each additional reciever. I'm wondering how a guy grosses $2200 a pay period at those rates. 4 reciever install paying $90.00 sounds low to me.

    Installer's Grief

Diehard, I'm with you. I aggree when it comes to the HSP's and RSP's "just get the job done no matter what it takes" No extra's for wallfish, pole mount, trenching, or any other "custom" work. Drives all the good techs out of the industry. But heck, they just put an ad in the newspaper-Help...

satellite techs-how much paid for installs?

I've never worked for them as I am in Nebraska, but that doesn't seem to bad of pay as long as your not driving 100 miles a day. That's pretty standard around here and I also use my own supplies.

Looking to switch from Cable to Satellite. What can I expect?

I would try to contact a couple of local retailers, ask them if they would stop by and do a sight survey. It may cost you a few dollars but then you would know exactly what you are getting into. I'm a retailer in the Omaha area and I always do a free sight survey, that way not only does the...
