What LNB,lnbf and should i use a feed horn on 8'prime focus dish

I'll be honest, I've read this reply half a dozen times and still can't understand what's trying to be said.

Aligning Atlantic side of h-h dish

Start by making sure the pole is truly vertical, not just 'that's pretty good on a spirit level' but really vertical, ideally with a digital angle finder. If you can reach the LNB you can make a cheap and cheerful plate for circular signals using a polyethylene chopping board. Just cut it to...

Can we use polycarbonate plate instead of teflon ?

I've heard back from him and have the diagram. He's currently experimenting with the design and adding some extra lengths of copper wire to each copper plate, hopefully he's going to send me a photo to show what's he done but he says he's improved some transponders by over half a dB so I'll...

Can we use polycarbonate plate instead of teflon ?

John, let me ask the guy that made the one I'm using, it may take a few days to get a reply from him but I'll let you know what he says.

Can we use polycarbonate plate instead of teflon ?

We've made plates out of a few different materials with good results, sometimes upto 1dB stronger than the usual supplied slab. Both CD cases and a nylon chopping board can make very effective plates.

    Rust Removal By Electrolysis

What an interesting project! I wonder what is special about the Arm and Hammer soda because it's not something we can get this side of the Atlantic but I'm sure there is an equivalent if we know what the magic ingredient is?

    Extended C Band LNB

Back to square one the LNB, I misread the detailed info although the title does call it extended coverage, presume they mean wideband down to 3.4GHz so I will look into getting one of those from Tek. I'm in East Sussex too, literally a stones throw from the 0° meridian line and down on the coast...

    Extended C Band LNB

IN what must be the coincidence of the year I checked my emails this morning to see one from Ebay alerting me to a Eurostar extended C band LNB listed as new old stock for £30 but with make an offer. I've managed to get it for £25 so worth taking a chance on it even if it's down on my other...

    Extended C Band LNB

Trawling through the Tek2000 website earlier to see if they sell separately the polar mount fitted to the 2.4m Jonsa dish I came across their extended coverage C Band LNBf with dual IF's. Has anyone tried one, how does the regular C Band performance compare to what's already out there like the...

    Tek2000 8' Solid Dish Review

That's an interesting mount, the dish looks like the generic Jonsa/Fortec Star but I've never seen a polar mount available for it so is this something that Tek2000 manufacture themselves? Just one question if I may, is declination set using the two bolts in this pic?

    Securing Dish Movement

Having played with a few different dishes on diseqc motors and polar mounts it's something I've thought of doing once everything has been fined tuned. The conclusion I reached in the end was not to do because I'd rather a dish move round the pole due to extreme wind than be warped or broken due...

    NOS "old style" Chaparral Corotors

I hadn't spotted the converter from them, thanks for the link and yes it is a good price. Where did you get your LNB's from, tried Googling them but can't find anywhere that shows prices or suggests they actually have stock.

    NOS "old style" Chaparral Corotors

I was out in Cyprus last October and made contact with the person selling them as I wanted to collect one while I was there but he didn't get back to me until after I'd returned to the UK, pity because it would of saved the high shipping cost for one unit. Arabsat is still listed with S-band...

    NOS "old style" Chaparral Corotors

Benjamin, are these from the supplier on Cyprus? I've been thinking about getting one just to experiment on S-Band, Arabsat used to use it but not sure what is left on the band. Have you compared the performance of this model against the new version, on both C and Ku?

    Gain figures?

Thanks Brian for a really useful and informative reply. There is so little information about performance I started working on what I could find which are simple gain figures but some of the claims made me question them. Still not really sure what route to take on this, it is primarily for C Band...

    Gain figures?

I've got the chance to relocate my dish from it's current location to another spot in the garden that will give me much better coverage of the easterly horizon. I already have a 1.2m that gets me close to 70°E of south (I'm at 0.003°E) but the new spot means the 1.8m should be able to reach...

    10ft. Mesh ChannelMaster

Thanks, when it purchased it was made by a company called Precision Antennas here in the UK, now they're Elite Antennas but the process is still the same with all the reflectors being hand spun. I've since replaced mine with a 1.8m version shown in the photo, all their models up to 2.2m are...

    10ft. Mesh ChannelMaster

Looks similar to the base I made for my 1.2m. I wanted something that would allow fine tuning of the vertical after it had been installed.

FORTEC STAR 6FT POLAR MOUNT has anyone experience with multicomstore.com

Feel free to delete this post if it's OT to the thread but thought you may like a UK perspective on the Jonsa/Fortec Star. Over this side of the pond they have a very bad name, for three reasons although I think it's somewhat unjustified. First is build quality, reported that the petals are...

    Corotor ID and thoughts please.

Thanks, I'd not have found that on a search. Looking at the specification it won't be wide band enough for use over here which is a shame but once the weather warms up I'll spend a day experimenting with it to compare performance.

    Corotor ID and thoughts please.

At the moment I'm using a LNBf on my C band dish, currently an ESX241 although I also have a C1PLLw when it's not being used on a 1.5m offset. I have in my box of bits a dual band corotor that I'm curious to try. It's a bit weathered but the all important throat and feed seem not so bad. It was...

    Uniden dish?

I reckon you could be right, that's a brand name that seems to appear quite a bit in searches so hopefully it's a good dish. As an indication of how rare these are in the UK I've been playing with sat tv since the mid 80s and have travelled quite a bit around the country but can only recall...

    Uniden dish?

Bit of a mystery then, I hadn't actually thought about counting segments to compare but I'll trawl some old BUD pics later to see if I can find a match. Either way I'm going to take him up on the offer as it's too good a deal to miss and only about an hour away from me.

    Uniden dish?

This is where it gets slightly complicated, I do have one low res photo of it but at some point in the past the sections were covered with steel panels that were formed to the same curve as the original mesh so there's not many clues in the photo but I'll post it anyway. It does come with an...
