Yep. Not only did my Dad's have the hand crank, but it also had no remote on the receiver. Had to actually get up to switch transponders. All done in a foot of snow, uphill, both ways. :eek: Ahhh... the good old days.

I'm thinking you're a little light on that price. My Dad got a cheapo brand in '83(with the hand crank at that)... $2900. As I stated earlier, Birdview owners claimed a $1000+ premium over standard systems.

They are pricey. The advantage DH has is...they're still making them. However caddata made a good point earlier. As a package price, Birdview has the edge...maybe. Lets assume Birdview was still in business. By today's prices, what would the price be? Who knows...maybe not that far off the DH...

Well back when I was actually looking for one, I talked to 2 original owners. Both said basically the same thing. That purchase price was around 4K...about 1K more than the average dish of the same size. The people that bought the Birdviews, were, dare I say it, a step above(financially)other...

DH Satellite truely has some of the nicest spun aluminum dishes I've seen. I think there is even a perforated one available. Not sure, but although they seem to be geared for commercial use, sure be nice to see one of those 2.4M ones in my back yard. Didnt notice any prices. Question is, how...

Hey I was glad to be able to give it a good home. And I must say, it was very enjoyable meeting Keith and his wife Mary. Very nice people. My only regret was in not getting a picture of Keith trying to get away from a very determined wasp! :D Priceless.

LOL Hey Joe thats the price you pay for buying into new technology. Case in point. In 1995 I paid $800 for a Directv receiver and another $600 for the second receiver! Never thought back then that someday they would give them away.:shocked

Yeah I noticed that. The dish is very deep. Good for separating those close sats, but tricky to lock on sometimes. :) I know its heavy. I still have the one from my former employer on standby. ;) And WAY behind me as well my friend.

Actually I wasn't able to get it. It was a t radio station, and the guy I talked with said he didnt think it was being used. But that I'd have to talk with their tech guy about it. So the next day I see the tech guy and we go out and look at it. He says "Oh no, we still use that one." Kind of...

Yeah I'm afraid the Birdview is gonna be too difficult. Not to mention they built the house around the post. :( Plus it's about a 2 hour drive. May keep that on the back burner for now. ;) I just added another pic of a Zenith dish next to the big one. Take a look. A first for me. :)
