I agree too. I remember older incarnations of the front page (older versions of vBulletin, I guess) used to have the date and time.

Personally I find it harder to see which forums contain new posts. The usual yellow vs. white scheme allowed for much quicker scanning of the forums listing for unread posts. Also the animation is distracting. Just my input, but it's not bad enough to keep me away from here. :)

Thou shalt not take the name of root in vain... :p I'm guilty of over-using root at work, though, but my excuse is it's a lot harder to work with the kernel modules I develop when you're not root. :)
