1 gig. internet for 49 bucks

Longmont city government owns the isp. That's why they offer this, as they don't have all the conflicts that regular isp's appear to have (or create for themselves). Nice place to live.

What is really amazing is that some of these small rural communities are starting out with just 400 subscribers, just goes to show that it can be done, if people put the community back into their communities and not sit back and wait on a corporation with shareholders to feed.

The cities are taking matter into their own hands mostly because the current broadband market is essentially a comfortable duopoly of cable and telecom operators with little competitive pressure and as a result no incentive to boost the bandwidth and cut prices.

EPB (electric power board) in Chattanooga Tennessee has 1Gig service. VERY expensive, but available

I looked up the price, 1 Gig is only $69.99 a month, their 100 MBPS service is only $57.99 a month, both services have no caps, Comcast Extreme 105/150 is $129 a month off contract and certain areas have caps and then a extra $30 a month for no caps.

If I lived there (and they provide good service) I would drop Comcast in a second.
