129 Signal Strength seems to be improved

I happened to check signal strength on 129 and signals appear to be improved. TP 30 (RAVE, etc) is showing 80-85% on my 811. A week ago, it was down around 50%. Other TPs are improved as well, but TP 30 channels had almost become unwatchable. I'm up in the Pac Northwest, where signal was lower than other places. I'm using a dish with an I bracket, and have made no changes to alignment.

Could it be with E-10 looking sucessful, E is able to increase the power consumption of E-5 to boost output, and migrate E-8? Or is it just luck/co-incidence?

I am seeing the following on my Dish 1000 at 11:00 pm central time;

1) 77
2) 78
3) 77
4) 77
5) 80
6) 80
7) 83
8) 75
9) 90
10) 92
11) 77
12) 91
13) 92
15) 86
17) 82
18) 82
19) 78
20) 83
21) 83
22) 78
23) 78
24) 81
27) 80
30) 81
31) 83

Now this signal will drop down to the low 70's every 20 minutes or so and raise back up to the 80's again . I am not sure if it stays locked in at all times as my diagnostic screen shows lost locks every day in the 5 - 9 range on either one tuner or both. I get the same on my 2nd 622 too. Haven't noticed any drop outs when I watch Voom channels either live or recorded.

I use my Dish 1000 for just the 129 sat. I used a sat meter and peaked it on the 129 sat and the skew is different than what the instructions told me but it works for my needs. I also have a dish 500 with a dishpro plus twin that I run the 129 sat into and it is peaked and I have strengths on most of my transponders in the 100's on both 119 and 110 , with the exception of the 119/110 spotbeams. I also have the skew slightly adjusted different than the sat menu says I should in the point screen. By reducing the skew down from 121 to 119 I get all my 110 transponders in the high 100's or low 90's.

Either way I hope they will increase the power on the 129 sat or replace it with the echostar 6 sat that is now a spare. Maybe when they use the dish 500 + and dish 1000+ sat dishes , they will move all the national hd to the 118.75 sat ( don't know which sat this will be yet) and use 129 sat for just hd locals.

Wish I could get 129's TPs in the 70s and 80s. Even the 20-minute-drops wouldn't be too much of an issue with signal levels like those.

Like I said last night, upper 50s on most of 129's TPs and mid-upper 60s and low 70s on 10, 11 and 12. I need to sit there and see what they do during the drop-out cycle.

I'm in the comfortable 110s to 120s with 110/119, which is rather nice.

Ok, I did some observations today on 129, TPs 8, 12 and 27.

Here are my observations and weather conditions today are clear, cloudless skies:

I watched the signal strength on 8 for 20 minutes. It peaked at 65 over the 20-minute period and hit a low of 43 in that same 20-minute period.

I watched the signal strength on 12 for 20 minutes. It peaked at 76 and hit a low of 70 in that 20-minute period.

I watched the levels on 27 for 20 minutes. It peaked at 66 and hit a low of 35 (!) in that 20-minute period.

Has anyone else in the NW noticed this type of signal behavior?

Whatever programming is on 27, probably becomes unwatchable at 35...

I know there was a thread in the other forum about the signal dropping 30 to 40 pts like every 20 minutes. This was only for people in the PNW. But, yes I've read in both forums about drops of signal on 129.

I thought there might've been another thread and I searched for it, but nothing obvious came up, so I posted it here.

I guess my point being that this just seems wrong (as in no excuse wrong) that E* should be putting up HD on a sat that's defective.

I completely agree. This is wrong but all we see is more and more people complaining and no action whatsoever from E*. If you call they make you feel like you're the only one having this problem.

Maybe you should try to rotate the skew to get 129 up a little more and sacrifice a little strength to 110. 119 strength will remain the same.

Today TP 10 is 91, 11 is 76, 12 is 91. All three appear solid at those numbers. I did see some variation on TP 30 going from around 70 to 75. They are still higher than I previously had seen in a while. Could be the unusually sunny skies in the NW.

I use a dish 500 with an I bracket so I don't have to compromise signal. Hey, I'm happy for now.

I may try a little re-peaking of my dish and give up a little on 110 to gain some on 129. 110 is very solid, steady and holding in the low 100s (mid-upper 90s on cloudy/rainy days). I could maybe sacrifice 10 points on 110 and still be just fine if I could gain 10 points on 129. Maybe even a 15-point swap and I could be ok. That'd make me smile. :) Thanks for the idea, ralfyguy.

Well since you stated that your 119 signals are that high, means that your dish is peaked to the max. Also the 110 signal that high means the aim must be perfect. And since the 119 LNB is in the middle, means if you rotate the skew, your signal on 129 should improve with sacrificing a little on 110. Maybe the 110 loss isn't gonna be that much, but I think it's worth to get the 129 as high as possible, if you care about your HD channels. The 119 will not change with this mod.
