Originally had Directv, but after several years, cut the cord and went OTA. That lasted probably a year or two. Went back to Directv (had a receiver already, back in the day they weren't complicated and paying for one was doable, that receiver had 5.1, though Directv Programming didn't have much 5.1 to offer) and then signed up with Dish. Dish rocks. While their channel contract interruptions were legendary and threads on ESPN contract deals lasted as long as glaciation periods, Dish allowed me to go off the beaten path to get the absolute right package or supplement of packages to save money. With how the media world is today and how access to programming has expanded, Cable/Sat distribution, where fiber access is readily available, is becoming obsolete and I can't justify the cost, as competitive as it was.

Called it in, they tried hard to hold on, about $50 a month or half off my bill. But ultimately, with Sling's new per day option, I can get three or four days for live football for $15 / $20 a month, if I have to do that.

So with the HDHomerun performing admirably for the locals, it is time call it a day. But I part with Dish as friends. This is simply business. We'll always have Sling... as a backup.

I appreciate all the help from the board that has saved me real money (most boards can't say that) and periodic technical help. A really good combo.

Yeah it's sad to see, Dish service is great but the content on paid TV is just lacking. Channel after channel of reruns. I see why everyone is leaving the cable and satellite companies in droves.
As I have posted before, if you want new scripted content, streaming services is where it is at, you receive all the show/movie exclusives, along with all the new scripted TV Shows from Paid live TV on the on demand services like Paramount, Peacock, Hulu, etc.

Along with the quality upgrade, for example, the new Alien Earth series is in 720P on FX via Dish, while it is in 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision on Disney+/Hulu.

If you want the rerun content, give Pluto/Tubi/etc a try, totally free, as all that content should be.

If you prefer your reruns ad free, be prepared to pay. The providers don't get the rights to those programs for free.
I want new content, usually made in the last 5 years ( very behind in watching), I do not need or wish to watch Sanford & Son, old episodes of Law & Order or even Friends.

So I never watch older reruns, seen them.

I find the newer reruns less watchable, since those are the ones I most likely remember over the much older ones, but to each their own of course.

So now they've gone down to offering a day-by-day service on Sling, only to have it help speed up their DBS demise.

I find newer content generally less watchable. Really, most of this crap I wonder how people can watch it, let alone enjoy it as they say they do.

I just do not want to waste my time watching something I have viewed before, when there is so much new content on.

With Football season coming up ( the only sport I watch), will even have less time to watch new scripted content, keep getting further behind.

Has Dish nixed offers?
