Does everyone have this? It says HD Theater on the bottom of the screen. It's showing some car show.

I've never seen it in my guide.

The "real" channel is up. It is mirrored to the test channel number and does not waste any bandwidth, which is why Dish does do it.

stop...you are making too much sense for this early in the morning!

no it is for installers. Before a receiver is activated it can get channels like 101, but it can also get the test channel.

This comes in very handy when you want to make sure the hd settings are right for the tv. also it gives the cust something pretty to look at while the receiver is being activated.

aka makes them shut up.

there are like four hd theathers. but since a
hd channels are on diffrent frequencies i don't see how that can be done without waste. there are 4xxx that mirror xxx channels but are in hd also 9xxx and 5xxx

Channel numbers are not frequencies. Dish could send up one video stream of a channel and map 50 channel numbers to it. It would only be the bandwidth of one video stream.

OP: You are thinking of it as if it were in an analog world; digital has been around for a very long time. One digital stream; as many map-downs to as many channels as need be. Or, to explain it in a analog sense: all the mapped-down channels "tune" the very same--the one and only--transponder with the digital stream (for that arc) that is HD Theater.
