72.7 and 77 on a Dish 500

I currently have a dish 500+ system using 110 and 119 with a wing dish at 61.5. My question is: Is it possible to reposition the dish 500+ to receive 72.7 & 77 and keep the 61.5 wing dish? My zip code is 17022.
I have not been able to receive both at the same time. Not sure what the skew settings should be if this is possible I am guessing that the smaller diameter dish doesn't have enough gain or image rejection to lock in both satellites simultaneously. I can't use the same mounting location with the 1000.4 system. My locals are in HiDef on 77.

72.7 and 77 are spaced closer together than 110 and 119 (1/2 the distance). The Dish 500 was designed for the 110/119 spacing. I think someone had 61.5 and 72.7 on a Dish 500 a while back as a lark. I say either get some more Dish 500s or a Dish 1000.4.

You cannot use a Dish 500 or Dish 500+ for 72 and 77, the spacing between the lnb's are wrong.

Yep this is the main reason it won't work.

Thanks for your help. Sounds like the best option is a 1000.4 in a new location.

what are you wanting to do exactly? Are you just trying for 77 or do you want 72.7 too?

If you go with a 1000.4 though, make you you have MPEG4 equipment

I want both 72.7 and 77. My current dishes are mounted to my chimney. If I go with a 1000.4 system, I do not want to mount on the chimney because of the larger size. I was hoping to use my current dishes to get 61.5,72.7,and 77. The receiver is a VIP622 with a card. I can receive programming on both 72.7 and 77individually---but check switch will not lock both in at the same time.

not saying you won't get any programming, but you won't get most. Your locals, if they are on 77 are probably ok, but the majority of hd used for the 1000.4 is mpeg4 and your 622 is not compatible

You might be able to use the 500+ to get 61.5 and 72.7, it will not be optimal, but should be close enough to work. Then you could use your 61.5 dish for 77. It would be better to go with the 1000.4

Hey neighbor... I'm in that same zip code!

To get the locals, I did it the cheating way.. just re-upped for two years and had them bring out a 1000.4; For the most part I played dumb and called in and said I heard that the Harrisburg locals were now in HD, but I don't have the right dish to get em. I don't know if they are still offering that as an option, but it might be worth a try (if you don't mind 2 more years of dish)

The 622 with a smart card is mpeg4 compatable. If I peak dish for 72.7, I receive all subscribed programming on 72.7. If I peak disk for 77, I receive all subscribed programming for 77. I just cant get check switch to lock both in at the same time.
1. I have a dish 500 pointed to 61.5.
2. This feeds a second dish 500 with a DPP Twin Lnb---no external switch
3. Receiver VIP622

This works for 61.5, 110, 119 but not for 61.5, 72.7, and 77.
I think "garys" stated that the spacing was the problem. I'm not sure what lnb spacing realy means. Is it the distance between the LNB's or the distance between the LNB and the dish?

BTW my parents did the same thing (called to get set up for HD locals), except with theirs they still have two dishes. A new 1000.4 at 61.5 and 77 (with 72.7 not connected) and the second for 110. I think that set up is also by the books for this market (with HD locals on 77)

I understand your concerns about mounting on the chimney. While the 1000.4 is larger than the 500, it's not like the big honking SuperDish. You can probably reuse the Dish 500 mast, but whoever installs it needs to use the struts that come with it. (of course this means 2 more holes in your chimney)

I think you be surprised at how sturdy that setup is. Just something to think about.

The sat locations are their locations in the sky. 72.7 and 77 would be 4.3 degrees apart, the Dish 500 has it's lnb's set for sats that are 9 degrees apart. You can use a Dish 500 to get either 72.7 or 77 but not both on the same dish. Not unless you manipulated how the lnb's are mounted on the dish.
