I currently have a Dish 500 with Legacy Dual LNB's along with a single dish with a Dual LNB. I currently feed 4 receivers with a SW64 switch. I want to replace my 6000 receiver with the 921. What's the best way to wire this if I want to contiune to feed four receivers? I believe I saw a diagram somewhere that showed this setup with two 64 switches with some other connections. Looked complicated.

Thanks,
John

You're right - paired SW64's is a tough wiring job, and not cheap. Start with a second SW64, 6 950-1450MHz splitters, 3 dummy loads, and over 30 coax connectors. In other words, well over a Franklin just to create a troubleshooting nightmare.

Cheapest thing to do is drop a receiver.

If that's not an option, go the DishPro route.

If one of the receivers can live without the third satellite, then DP Twin, DP Single LNBF, DP34, and DP21. Put the DP21 on the cascade outputs of the DP34 to create a fifth feed of 2 birds.

Otherwise, there's 3 options:
  1. DP Twin, DP Single, 2 DP34's. That's good for up to 8 tuners.
  2. DP Quad, DP Dual, DP34, DP21. Good for up to 5 tuners getting 3 birds,
and one (the 4th feed from the Quad) of 110/119 only.
  3. DP Twin, DP Single, DPP44, DPP Separator.
That's good for 4 receivers - single or dual tuner.
Dual tuner boxes require a DPP Separator.

Thanks. I see things have changed quite a bit since I put up my dishes. :) I'm not that familiar with the new dishes and switches. I originally put up the Dish 300 for the 61.5 sat so I could get HD. Is HD still on that bird? All my local channels are on 110, which I get on my Legacy 500 along with the 119 bird. Is there a compelling reason to keep the 61.5 dish if HD is no longer on it?

I think before I go any farther, I need to figure out what kind of dishes I need to point to what satellites.

Thanks,
John

CBS-HD east and a HD demo channel or the only HD programming on 61.5. CBS-HD west is on 148 all other HD programming is on 110.

SimpleSimon failed to mention in his conversion to DishPro explanation that you would also need a DishPro to Legacy converter for each non-DishPro receiver in option 1 or 2.

Dish has diagrams here : http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/pdf/technology/installation/install-5.pdf of hooking up two SW64's. The parts may be hard to find, and the install is not easy to troubleshoot.

Also the other board has a thread with a bunch of install diagrams at http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=30114

Simon's option #1 is on the last page if you take out one of the DP34's. It also shows the adapter for a legacy tuner (any 4-digit model#). I haven't seen a diagram yet of a DPP44 install, but it's similar to that. You just have the option of running a single line from the switch to any dual-tuner receiver (721, 921, 322, 522) using a DP separater to feed both tuner inputs. You also have the capability of adding a 4th satellite, but it sounds like you may not even need three :)

KRK is right - I forgot about the need for a DP Adapter except when using the DPP44.

If you drop back to a 2-bird, 5 tuner configuration, it's a DP Twin, DP34, DP21. Of course, 4 of the tuners could access a 3rd bird with the addition of a DP Single on a wing dish.

Ok, thanks to everyone. I'm out of town this week and probably won't have the time to digest all this until I get back.

By the way, how do you get your location under your join date?

If you go with the DP34 and want the 3rd satellite on the 921, you will need 2 DP21s since both tuner inputs have to have the same switch configuration.

That first diagram is a keeper, thanks :)

Why would he need to go through a second dp21? All he needs to do is put the 921 on two of the dp34's outputs and move one of his receivers to the cascaded dp21's output, assuming it can live without the 3rd bird.

Well I got the 921. To get it up an running right away, I disconnected one of the my other receivers. Installation and setup went pretty well......a lot more options than the 6000. Picture is better. I knew there wouldn't be any channel guide for my local digital channels. I guess I missed the part about not being able to time-shift on these channels. I assume that feature is coming also?

Update: Never mind, time-shifting works fine with locals....operator error.

Regards,
John
