A bunch of Johnny Carson Shows to be released on DVD

A 15 disc DVD collection is coming out this month with complete shows . I don't know if they will have the original commercials but they will be the full shows I believe. A while back you could buy shows for about $100 bucks an episode. I purchased many of them before they stopped doing it. They had the complete shows on them with commercials. Amazon has a good price on it, but if you use the coupon birthday20 you get a $20 price discount on the Johnny Carson website. Not bad

Got a chance to look at the set this weekend. Every show has the opening monologue and that's a good thing because it takes you back to that time in a better way. The shows are not complete . No commercials or anything like that. The 1965 show with Jim Henson and the muppets was pure gold. It's worth it because of the rare video. I found a few strange problems with a few of the disc. I was expecting a very problems with the quality of the video from the 1960's but instead I found whoever transferred the video to dvd did a bad job on a few of them. Heavy compression and pixels in some of the disc from the late 1970's all the way up to 1990's . And I have some of these original broadcast that don't show this compression so someone screwed up with the transfer . I contacted the company to tell them about this. I did find it cheaper at Costco for $70.

That's unfortunate. Johnny was still doing in-show commercials into the '80s and some of those were priceless. I wouldn't mind having those included at all.

You do see a few of those. He holds up a product and talks about it before they go into a commercial. During the end of a monologue a lady walks wearing a space suit and removes her helmet to give Johnny a product that he promotes.

I tossed-out a hundred or so VHS tapes from the '80s and early '90s not too long ago...most were of Michigan football, but some were of SNL and the Tonight Show with JC. I would have moved them over to DVD if the quality weren't so poor. Heck, I think I have only one (1) VHS player left...and that's packed away in the attic.
