Since at present there does not seem to be that many new available new HD content broadcasters out there, and with talk of possibly up converting existing SD channels into HD; Do you think that D*’s claim of 100 additional HD stations would include a special arrangement to up convert the rest of the premium movie channels to HD?
That will be up converting all the HBO, Starz, Showtime and Cinimax. “Over 30” to HD!
As you all know the present HD premium movie channels are just simulcast along with their SD channel; nothing unique, same content but in HD. Cheap way to go without adding any new content, but still claiming additional HD channels!
For E*, when you add the existing HD channels, that would bring it up to over 60 channels easy!
Heck, even Cable can pull the same marketing trick.
Just a wild guess, I think that down the line it would eventually go that route anyway, with the most of the popular SD channels.
