An E* Customer testimonial on HD

I about pissed my pants laughing when I saw this on an actual E* thread in their HD section. I am assuming this is an actual E* customer:

"I hate to admit it, but the upconverted SD stuff on the new Discovery HD channels actually looks very good. While I can still tell the difference, its not a disppointment to watch those channels as it is with some other SD on HDTV programs."

Its hard to believe that E* customers are settling for "upconverted HD". While it is disappointing that D* has had fewer HD channels than E*, I am glad they focused on quality and did it right with launching new sats and MPEG4.

Don't worry, Joe. You'll get the same Discovery HD content whenever D* gets those channels to you, and it'll look the same or worse than it does on E*.

All those channels are up in MPEG-4 now, on E*. :neener

I was going to say the same thing.. the discovery channels are going to show up the same on D* as they do on E* .. I can't wait to compare the quality on my sat provider vs. my brothers.. we'll see which of us switches first..

Joe the content will be exactly the same when the same channels launch on DirecTV.

And DireTV customers will say the same thing.

There is no magic HD content button that DirecTV is going to press and make Discovery HD (and the other channels) show more HD content. Most of the channels being added by BOTH companies are simulcasts, thus HD content is going to be slim compaired to a channel that is 24/7 HD.

Ha! You quote me, and call me out! You are going to be getting the exact same "upconverted HD" as everyone else in the world for those Discovery HD channels. Well, you will one day, if you had E* you would have at least had them by now.

You know what... I read that as E* was upconverting ther SD Discovery channel. Not that the Discovery HD channel on E* was upconverting their SD content like TNTHD does.

I guess the mistake was in the way it was worded or read! Either way I assume it for posting and knocking E*!

I know that you feel you must stick up for D* and their subs at all times, but you know that everything in Joe's post was wrong, and everything in my post was right. Show me where I said anything as silly as Joe did.

You'll see in a few weeks what I was talking about. The SD programs that they show on these HD Discovery channels (TLC, Science, Disc, Animal) look much better than they do on their SD counterparts. Considering that I'm pretty much in "HD Only" mode now, it was always kinda painful to watch those channels since they did have content that I liked. Now that I have History-HD, I'll be really happy. Just need that Speed-HD for F1!

What kind of content on History HD is actually in HD. I am sure old footage of battle scense will not be in HD, but overall are you pleased with it? History Channel is in my top five!

As far as being graceful... what can I say? I got married and my wife changed me for the better!

I haven't been home yet to check it out. It will likely be just like A&E-HD as far as PQ goes. Content wise, its the same as History SD, but I guess anything that is letter box on their has the potential to be HD on the HD outlet.

What kind of content on History HD is actually in HD.

I am pretty sure Ice Road Truckers was shot in HD. I would imagine anything produced in the last few months was filmed in HD and presented in LB.
