i had to cancel my installation w voom when i found out that being over 70 mi away fr the ota antenna would give me a slim to none chance of getting the high def locals and networks. is there any offer fr dish for current customers on a high def reciever? i have the dish 500 w two sat dishes. i really dont want to spend 600 dollars on a reciever. thanks in advance for your help.

I would try to get the 811 from Dish for $149 like a lot of us have done. It is an inexpensive way to get a HD receiver that will then give you the ability to try to get those OTA locals even tho they are 70 miles away. Depending on your terain you just might get lucky. I get one OTA channel that is 103 miles away most of the time. It is a pretty clean shot over water most of the way. My other OTA are iffy a lot of the time and they are only 43 miles away. Terain and multipath problems but do get them often enough to get some enjoyment.
If you already have a large Tv antenna you can try it if it has at least more than 5 or 10 UHF (short) elements and a corner reflector on it. (most OTA are UHF) Good luck

$99 offer...

I've been with Dish for one year and I was told that I could get the HD receiver for $99 and could be installed within the week.
Still trying to decide whether to just pull the trigger and get Voom.

Are you a DHP customer? I thought the 811 HD receiver cost $149 or $199. (the lower price for "exclusive" customers.

thanks

You could probably pick up the channels if you put up a pre-amplifier and a big antenna from Winegard or Channel Master.
