I'm looking for a portable dish tripod to take to tail gate parties. I've done the whole bucket of cement thing and it is a pain in the butt. I see them on E-bay, but I was wondering if anyone knew of another place to pick one up. One of the sponsers maybe? I looked around on Dishstore but couldn't find any. Thanks in advance.

I actually tried Radio Shack (my local one) and they didnt have any. I also tried RadioShack.com and couldn't find any. Anyone else?

I don't have the slightest idea where an RV store is. I wouldn't think that is a very common type of store. OK, I guess I'm off to fleabay to take my chances.

Heavy-Duty 3-Foot Tripod Mount

$29.99
Model: 15-517
Catalog #: 15-517

from radioshack.com. Usually the stores carry one or two. Do a search on that model number or just type in "antenna tripod".

Next, goto homedepot and get some PVC pipe. I forget the correct diameter, but you could bring your dish with you and make sure. Get a 10' piece and then cut it down to however tall you want it. I believe mine is about 5'.

I've used this setup tons of times at tailgates. It has worked both with a dish300 and a 500. I usually bring some pieces of wood to level the tripod.

Oh, and dont forget a compass. Usually it is sunny and I can just plain eyeball where it should be pointed, but the last time we were out it was cloudy and took a while longer because it was a different stadium and I had no reference points to work with.

Is the PVC strong enough to support a DISH 500 and a DISH1K?

And do you use U-bolts to attach it to the PVC?

I don't know why I couldn't find it on Radioshack.com, but it looks like that one would need to be mounted to something. I think I need more of a free standing one.

Thats probably the one I have used for about 9 years, since I got my first RCA D* DSS system. Tent stakes the long railroad spike type to anchor and as stated in another thread some type of wood or other material to level. ( I use twigs or rocks or whatever is handy...

Don't you need a seperate E* account to tail gate? They will audit the receiver while it is in the parking lot. :)

I've taken it tailgating on multiple occasions, but I'm trying to make my set up a little easier, I'm tired of lugging that bucket of concrete around. Thanks for the answers guys. Luckily if I was so unlucky as to get audited while at the game there would be nobody home to answer the phone and I would be hooking up the receiver when I got home anyway. Hell, I'll probably see Charlie at the TN games anyway.

I've used the radioshack tripod and a pvc pipe for years and its sturdy. The pipe goes through the middle of the tripod and there are spots to put screws through the tripod to snug up to the pipe (kind of like how you secure a christmas tree in the stand). You can go metal pipe as well (as dfergie said).

I put the tripod right on the parking lot with no problems tipping over. Just keep the drunks away from it :)

Truer words have never been spoken. Thanks, I'm going to give it a shot.

Go to Radio Shack and pick up a standard antenna tripod for around $20

I got them in stock at the DISHSTORE, but the problem is that by the time I mark them up, and ship them to you your looking at around $35

I think the main issues why we do not sell them is that we do not have boxes for tri-pods and if we ship them naked UPS tags on an extra $5
