Are any channels MPEG2 only?

I know that all of the new HD channels are MPEG4 and that the local channels are MPEG4.

It is my understanding that ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, HBO, and Showtime also got MPEG4 feeds with the new launch (located at the same channel number as their SD feed).

What about MPEG2 only channels? Are Universal HD, HD Theater, HDNet, and HDNet Movies MPEG2 only still? Are there any others that are only MPEG2?

Actually, NONE of the existing national HD channels got an MPEG4 "mirror". Channels that already existed like HBOHD, ESPNHD, etc. simply got an additionall channel mapping to the MPEG2 version. This has been discussed in several threads.

It is the general understanding that these channels that are true "simulcasts" of an SD channel (and therefore share a channel number with an SD channel) will have a true MPEG4 mirroring fairly soon. (There's that word, "soon" again! ) When this happens, the number that is the same as the SD version will be in MPEG4, and the "70's" number will be the old MPEG2. At the moment, however, all channel mappings are simply pointing at the MPEG2 version

As to channels like HDNET and UniversalHD... No telling when they'll get an MPEG4 mirror. Eventually all HD channels on D* will be converted to MPEG4 and the MPEG2 versions will be shut off. Whether we have to wait for this to happen to get an MPEG4 version of channels like HDNET is anybody's guess.
