Again, they raised the price on the package, fine, they did NOT raise the price on the subs that have that package ....
Thats a Big difference, they didn't come out and raise existing subs prices at all.
And exactly which part of the subject line "AT&T is Raising The Price of DIRECTV $10 a Month For New Subscribers..." led you to think we didn't know that??? ;)

It’s sad they have to raise rates to get better customers, but $35 for basic cable is un realistic these days.

IMHO, they should get rid of the promotional pricing all together and lower the every day pricing.

One thing they should do is give people the option to drop regional sports

There is no charge for regional sports, ESPN, or Fox Sports with the Preferred package. They also sent me a $375 Visa gift card for signing a two-year contract. All for the $35 rate. No wonder they raised it to $60.

Yup, totally agree.

I'm still sticking with my prediction that AT&T TV, DirecTV, and AT&T TV Now will all move to a new line-up of packages that feature everyday regular pricing from the first month. DirecTV will still require a 2-year contract (in exchange for free pro installation) and AT&T TV may require a 1-year contract while AT&T TV Now won't ever require a contract. For new customers under a contract, they should guarantee that the everyday price won't increase until the end of their contract, at which point the then-current everyday price will apply.

  • Starter: $30 on AT&T TV Now / $40 on AT&T TV / $50 on DirecTV (same set of channels as AT&T Watch TV -- no locals, no sports -- plus HBO Max)
  • Plus: $50 on AT&T TV Now / $60 on AT&T TV / $70 on DirecTV (includes locals and the most popular cable channels but no RSNs)
  • Max: $70 on AT&T TV Now / $80 on AT&T TV / $90 on DirecTV (includes everything in Plus, along with RSNs, some additional sports channels, and a few additional entertainment channels)
Themed add-on Extra Packs, available for $5-10 each, offer those less-popular channels not included in your base package.
All packages include HBO Max, as well as the HBO linear channels. No extra fee for broadcast channels in Plus or Max. No extra fee for RSNs in Max.
Free local OTA channels can be integrated into the Starter package via a modestly-priced network tuner device from AT&T TV (or the LCC device for DirecTV Genies). Plug in your own USB hard drive into the network tuner for free OTA DVR service as long as you remain a paying customer.
No more 3 free months of premium channels for new subs. HBO Max (which includes both HBO and Cinemax content on-demand, plus lots more) is automatically included in all three base packages. Showtime, Starz and Epix can be added a la carte at their standard monthly rates with a free one-week trial to start.

  • AT&T TV Now requires no contract but only has a 20-hour cloud DVR and does not come with a custom streaming box. Includes 2 simultaneous streams with extra streams costing $5 each. Not eligible for a bundling discount with AT&T Internet/Fiber.
  • AT&T TV requires a 1-year contract and has a 500-hour cloud DVR and comes with 1 (or 2?) free custom streaming boxes. Includes 3 simultaneous streams with extra streams costing $5 each. Provides a $10 bundling discount when combined with AT&T Internet/Fiber (making it cost the same as AT&T TV Now if you're on AT&T Internet/Fiber).
  • DirecTV requires a 2-year contract and comes with HD DVR service for 1 TV included (plus free access to the DirecTV mobile app for limited on-the-go access). Service to additional TVs costs $7 each.

It is really called "AT&T TV Now"? Talk about confusing! I thought it was "AT&T Now".

Yeah, it's actually named "AT&T TV Now". Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it?

It would have been much simpler (but then, hey, that's obviously not AT&T's style) if they just launched a new service called AT&T TV. If you opted to sign up with an up-front contract, you'd get a free box. If you paid an extra $10/mo on top of the standard channel package prices, you'd get a greatly expanded cloud DVR plus a 3rd simultaneous stream. And if you bundled the service in with AT&T Internet/Fiber and signed the up-front contract, you'd get the $10 upgrade (expanded DVR + 3rd stream) for free, along with a waiver of any data cap that might otherwise apply to your broadband plan.

See how much easier that would have been from a branding/marketing communications standpoint?

But it looks like AT&T TV Now isn't too long for this world. Rumor is that it will simply become the live cable TV add-on option inside the HBO Max app at some point in 2020. My guess is that will happen by end of 3Q 2020. AT&T TV Now ceases to exist as both a brand and an app, with the contract-free Starter, Plus and Max packages becoming available as add-ons to HBO Max for the same overall price as had been the case under the AT&T TV Now brand (which will automatically include HBO Max in all its packages anyhow).

Part of me honestly wonders at this point if the marketing folks at AT&T are consciously aware of the degree to which some of us on the internet are following each of their moves, like weekly installments in some kind of media/tech soap opera. Perhaps they see this stream of continual changes as a positive because it creates awareness/buzz/attention for their brand?

They don’t even see us, and do whatever they want because they are making the big bucks
