Effective September 19, 2007 we've reduced the price of BabyFirstTV from $9.99/mo to $4.99/mo. From September 19 through September 21, 2007 we will be offering BabyFirstTV (Channel 126) in free preview. BabyFirstTV is the nation's first and only channel devoted to babies and toddlers and features commercial-free, 24-hour programming for children 6 months to 3 years.

Not only is it not in HD, but many of the shows have annoying artifacts such as blurriness around the edges of the frame. I'm guessing the show in question might have been severely compressed MPEG-4 at one stage. Is there a way to cause that effect with MPEG-2 as well?

I'm surprised the channel is still around. $9.99/month for one SD channel? Wow!

THe age group is from 0-3 years, so how many people will remember even seeing this when they grow up? Besides most experts recommend that no children be exposed to tv at all ,when they under 3 years of age.

Oops. Oh well, I guess my kid will be as screwed up as I am. We actually have had Baby First before. My 3 year old generally liked it, but then we just started DVR'ing a bunch of PBS shows and she was just as happy with that. So we dropped it.

I noticed the channel back on last night and my 3yo was thrilled to see this as well. I was hoping maybe they had decided to add it to AT200 or something. But $4.99 is a more reasonable price and if she shows enough interest, we might let her keep it.

Geez, what the hell am I doing? Two paragraphs about Baby First TV? Ok, I'm done.

Check and see if your don't get qubo tv OTA. Its a kids programming channel that has been around for a while now, is all digital, and is pretty good from what my neighbors with small kids have told me.

I would pay that if I had small kids and thought it was worth it, but from the reviews I have read, qubo and PBS offerings are better and are not attempting to cash in on the "yuppie factor" of child rearing. (PS: My kids really liked PBS when they were young, and from what I saw of it, was pretty good programming, but then, my baby is now 22.)

We stayed at a state park last weekend and they had DirecTV in all of the cabins..quickly reminded me how poor their SD is...they had the Baby First TV deal on when we turned it on. My little 2 yr niece was addicted like crack. Kept her quiet during the LSU game on the other TV we had on the porch next to the BBQ! ;)

Yeah, toddlers just hate artifacts and blurriness!
I just noticed that "blurriness" looks the way it sounds.

I was a nice channel to have when Expressvu had the long free preview over the summer. But when the preview ended in September, my wife couldn't see pay $10/month for it.

At $5/month, we might think about it.

Actually still have a bunch of it saved on the 9200, from right before the preview ended. Baby doesn't care to much if he's watching repeats. :D

Watching last night and this morning, I didn't notice the blurriness (on SD TVs) I saw on the last free preview. But I sure did notice the audio is at least 1/2 sec behind the video. Aren't adults monitoring this channel?
