:D Wow I tell you what, Jeff Garlin is friggin hilarious, Charlie Chat tonight was about as funny if not funnier than an actual episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I was literally in the floor rolling when Jeff said "now I have a question, what about Swedish television for young people?" and after Michael said there was no interest, he said "but you should make it a priority!" "I will not leave the Emmy stage until Dish adds German TV!". :D I thought for a minute Charlie was getting aggrivated that the show was being taken over, but Jeff was too funny to tell him to be quiet, that was too entertaining for anyone to want to rather hear questions about Credit Card Autopay. "Where am I? The basement at Get Smart?" :yes "Time to do the space news guys, tell us about space". Hilarious, him and Larry David are too funny.

Once again it showed how removed Charlie was from the business.

Thats the biggest joke!

Comments like.....

"the 921 is the only HD recorder you can buy today"

Hello HD-TIVO?

"No satellite company can provide HD locals only cable can, we have to wait a couple years"

D* will have the top HD locals in 30 markets in 05 with KA?

My opinion is that Charlie chats should be for info for the consumers not entertainment, although the lack of knowledge on Charlie's part is entertaining in a sick sorta way

I not 100% sure that it is lack of knowledge. Charlie is at the point where he's focusing on public persona so he may give misleading statements on purpose to further that image. But He's also always been a money guy more than a tech guy so it may be the case that he truly doesn't know.

Finally Dish has such a cultish atmosphere that until they are blown over with the unasailable facts of an issue, the Dish reality is reality. They may simple have made an unspoken organizational decision to ignore certain facts regarding the competition.

Maybe he acts like this because of Stock issues. If he looks troubled about the competition then it could upset the market and his stock could drop in price and Charlie would lose money.

I'm wondering why Charlie would tell people to get HD from...CABLE??

He said use an OTA antenna, but if that doesnt work, you could always go through your cable company if they offer it...

most of us who dont have OTA for HD probably cant get cable either

I think because his Lobby for the offering distant HD networks is that cable has a advantage over satellite because of bandwidth so let E* offer distant HD to all homes who cant get OTA from there local station. So then he went in to the iwantmyhdtv.com Rant.

He needs to read this book....

I did exactly what Charlie's suggested. I phoned Cablevision immediately after the Chat and I am getting a Cablevision Tuner for an additional $4.40 per month. I have a Family Pack through Cablevision as a back up for rain fade. With the Tuner I will get NBC, Fox, Bravo and PBS channel 13 in High Definition and a channel called INHD.

However I am heavily invested in Dish Network. I have the Everything Pack and the High Definition Pack and the 301, 501, 811 and 911.

I will see how the picture quality is on high definition at Cablevision. May be he is counting on people like me not to leave because of their hardware investment. But it doesn't seem to be a good practice to refer people to the competition.

The only thing is can you import the local HD guide info from the satellite? I don't have DISH, I have Directv and their HTL-HD. It has a cable in jack on the back.

I tell you what, this chat woke me up. Thanks to Charlie referring me to my cable company, I have now ordered a cablebox with Firewire. Not only will I be getting Bravo and most of my local channels in HDTV but I will soon be burning my own collection of HD movies. I will be getting an HDDVD recorder or burn on the computer. I am sure some deal will be brokered with the Hollywood Studios and allow for a DVD High Definition Recorder to make one copy for home use. I will probably be getting a Starz package also. It all depends on the picture quality. I have the 921 but without the Dishwire it's of limited use.

An now your're all set for when your cable co brings out an HD PVR. Combined with DVHS the small Hard Drive is tolerable.

Soon? They will hang onto digital-to-digital copy protection on home retail devices till they run themselves into the ground. Where are the devices? They are just now dripping out DVD-9 recorders for PC; still no retail home devices. They keep pushing them back because of the TV & movie industry.

My Local so called digital cable's pq makes D* or E* Sd look like 1080i :) My brother just switched from it to D* with tivo, the installers hooked it thru his tuner instead of s-video(36" Sony) and the pq is still better than cable...I called them up and asked if they offered hd and the csr had not a clue what I was talking about. :) So cable is not an option here...Sorry Charlie

I missed the Charlie Chat because I was working.Did they mention any new channels?I'm talking about free ones. The last Charlie Chat mentioned the horse racing channel.
