How does the DVR 522 compress data? MPEG 2? What Bitrate?

-curious

522 does not compress data. It is compressed at the source. The 522 gets the same stream as the 508, 510, 721 etc. Do a Search on bitrate and Dish and you should get a better idea of how this works.

Just to give you an idea, Dish DVRs simply save the received satellite datastream - NO processing is done until you watch it. It's MPEG2. Bitrate varies depending upon channel - some are highly compressed in order to stuff more channels onto a single transponder.

From what I read, the standard channels are saved at about 1 Gig per hour.. That would make the bitrate stream coming from the satellite be around 2500 KB/s

How to add Sirius to favorites list?

5 receivers off 1 DP34
