Can I get an explanation of tuner usage?

Thanks. Ive kept my DVR on an UPS for years, currently have one that will keep the directv box going almost 2 hours. So is the PTAT glitch due to a power loss, or if it losses SS during a rain storm it will also crash all your recordings that night?

The glitch with the recording not resuming after a signal interruption is a PTAT issue only. If you have critical recordings or anticipate a line of thunderstorms during PTAT, you can unskip a timer in the daily schedule and it will then use a separate tuner, which will resume recording after a signal interruption - a useful option until the PTAT issue is resolved.

It will not release the PTAT tuner though. In order to do that you have to restart the box in the middle of PTAT and then you can use all three tuners as necessary.

Its good to know, but I probably wont sweat it too much. As stated, I have a UPS already, and I cant think of the last time I lost any recording time due to a storm. Hopefully they fix it before it in the future.

I dont see why it cant resume after the SS comes back. I mean it usually isnt gone long.

The hopper IMHO appears to be much more sensitive to signal loss than my VIP722 ever was.

Thats not good then. This is one of those issues they shoulda worked out before selling. I mean i get bugs will be there, but losing the entire PTAT for a signal glitch is a little ridiculous. I mean they are pushing a feature, and it has a pretty large flaw.

The PTAT signal loss issue I don't think was there initially (at least, no one seemed to notice or comment about it)...I think it may have been introduced with a recent software update, which is why it is "still" unresolved and possibly a moving target difficult to track down.

It doesn't seem like too many are complaining about it.

It only happened to me once, but once was enough for me to be looking for it to be fixed with this new software update.

Our tv watching is similar to yours in that we watch everything recorded. The hopper with ptat has saved me from having conflicts. Even though there are only 3 tuners, since ptat users only one to record 4 networks during prime time I have tuners available for cable programs also. As others have stated,i too have been able to watch shows I normally would not have been able to thanks to the ptat feature.

Thank god it never rains anymore. PTAT is the most addictive thing on earth my TV watching went from 4 hours a night to 7 to 10 I have to watch things in fast forward now and just get the jest of show I watch so many. You know they say we make advances in tv well when they give you the ability to watch everything that's on, and you don't have to make a choice which ones to watch it really screws with you. I'm glad it only records the 4 networks I don't know what I would do if it did anymore.

I will say that I have found myself using PTAT (and auto hop) far more than I ever thought we would. Like you, most of our timers were set up on the big networks, as that is the main thing my wife watches. I never really watched much on the networks outside of sports, but with PTAT, the stuff is there, so I have started following a couple of shows that I never would have otherwise.

Recording conflicts for us with one hopper were minimal, but I did not feel like having even the occasional hiccup, so I got a second hopper anyway. Can watch recordings from either DVR anywhere, and now I can record more than I could ever watch.

As far as issues, I had one between my living room hopper and the kids joey where I was having to reset the network almost nightly for a week or so. At the same time, my cable modem and router started acting up. Replaced the modem and router and the issue went away, so what I thought was a dish issue appears to not have been.

That aside, it has been pretty solid. A glitch or two at first, but pretty bullet proof for me over the past several months.

If you like sports, like I thought you mentioned, the gamefinder app is fantastic.

Its a fantastic system.

Im looking forward to trying it for sure. Do I understand correctly that its 2TB's, but only 1TB is for your recordings? Does PTAT count against your 1TB or Dishs's 1TB?

I think its around 1.25 TB now for your usage, but I may be off a little. The rest is for either PTAT or the on demand stuff (or both). Plus you can add an external to supplement the on board storage (even stack them If I am not mistaken, meaning one for each usb port), to make any space issues a thing of the past (of course 1+TB is a pretty large amount of storage place by itself)

I totally agree. PTA also has me watching more shows than I ever watched before. With 2 Hoppers the system works great and I have more tuners than I usually need and I have not had all the issues that seem to come up on this forum. Auto Hop has me spoiled as most of our shows are network.

Yepp, 1TB is a lot. I have 25 hours of HD recorded on my HR34 and its only using 10%.
