Channel 5710 - HD TEST. Anyone else notice this? Looks good. Showing a nature show now. Not sure what it is.

It is just a mirror of Discovery Theater. Been up for several weeks now.

The engineers are probably experimenting with compression limits or transponder tweaks. That's my guess.

But it's just another channel number pointing to the same stream that 9421 points to... so any tweaks etc. would show up at 9421 as well.

It's not a real channel. It simply another channel number pointed at the same exact video stream as Disc HD Theater. They could make 100 channel numbers pointed to the same video stream and it wouldn't change the bandwidth or how much bandwidth that channel takes up.

How long is Dish planning on testing HDTHR? What are other channels that were tested on the Test Channel? That channel looks fine to me? Next...

The mirrored channel(s) could be used for test DRM, billing system, etc.

More like several months now. I just don't get why they need it showing for all customers. Seems like a mistake they haven't caught.
