I'm in the process of deciding whether to "move", and am considering moving to Chicago. I know that the big four are CONUS, but for the independents, would the Chicago spot beam reach the Milwaukee area?

Here's the map

Just for reference -- and I know not all spot beams are the same in the amount of area they cover -- but I can regularly get the Cincinnati locals (all of them) from here in northeast Georgia and, having driven there for a Bengals game a few times, it's about 390 miles from my house. However, I have real difficulty getting anything out of Charlotte (so you may want to look at a map and see the area it covers).

By the way...I just "moved" successfully, and I was able to do it through an online CSR! Much easier than having to deal with waiting on hold on the phone.

I do not know about receiving the Chicago locals besides the big 4 in Milwaukee, but in Indianapolis, I can only get them maybe 40% of the time in the Summer and about 80% in the Winter. Toledo & Detriot come in better during the Summer at about 40% of the time. Columbus, & Dayton are on Conus and always come in. This is what I can receive on spot beams in Indianapolis: Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington, Nashville (Big 4), Evansville, Paduach, Springfield-Champaign, Terre Haute, South Bend, Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis, Sometimes: St. Louis, Rockford, Chicago, Detriot, Toledo, Flint, Bay City, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, Wilkes Barre, Scranton, Harrisburg, NYC Spots, Hagerstown, & 2 Milwaukee stations.

Damn!?!?! New York City spot beams in Indianapolis, Indiana??? That's about 700 miles away from you.... The closest I have tried was Cincinnati (about 440 miles from here -- yesterday, I stated 390 but, upon looking at the mileage record I keep, discovered I was 50 miles off). I never really have any real difficulty pulling Cincinnati in and it stays about 60% on a constant basis (although stronger in the winter it seems). I'd like to take the time to experiment (as you have) and see exactly where all I can pull in spot beams from.

some of these are hard to beleve espec. saint louis grand rapics and nyc. how far away can we relesticly expect to get spot beams from

The spot beams wobble, I sometimes only receive so.me of the spot beams for only an hour or two like Bay City & Kalamazoo. St. Louis about 70% of the time. It seems you only need about a 30% signal to view.
