I had my Dish DVR receivers connected to my house land line phone for years so that we did not have to pay for the extra $ 5.00 per month. Recently, we got rid of the house land line phone and got the Verizon Wireless 'Home Phone connect' instead. We did this to save some money. Last week, I connected my Dish VIP 612 to the new Verizon 'Home phone Connect'. It appears that I am still avoiding the $ 5.00 fee because the VIP 612 is connected to a phone. (Home phone connect). I continue to receive my program guide, However, I cannot order a PPV movie from the remote control anymore. Has anyone else done this and do they have this PPV problem?

FYI, the $5.00 phone connect fee was dropped in Feb, 2010. Can't answer the PPV question, but guide data comes from the sat, not the phone line.
If you connect to the internet, you can do PPV.

I have home phone connect as well (which is awesome BTW). Verizon makes it pretty clear in big red letters HERE that it won't work with Dish. CallerID still works fine though.

If you really want to save some money, ditch the PPV and use redbox or netflix.
