I'm sorry if this has already been asked, or for that matter, if there is already a 500 page thread explaining this in one of the pages. BUT. I'm just wondering if Dish has recently improved the quality of it's HD channels. I've noticed for the past week that my HD channels look noticably better than they used to look. Not sure if I'm imagining things or not. Even my wife thinks they look much better. I real answer would be appreciated. I've had about enough of the "where have you been", "Newbie", etc. comments that I tend to get any time I ask a question in this forum.

I was actually thinking that quality had gone down in the past two weeks. I can't really comment on National HD channels, but the sharpness of the SF Bay Area locals seems to be much worse recently.

Picture quality is subjective. If you think it looks better than it does & conversely if you think it looks like crap it does , to YOU.

I keep hearing that the HD channels on 72.7 are full resolution 1920 x 1080, but have no way of checking that.

But the picture looks a lot better to me on the 72.7 channels then they do on 61.5

I get my HD off of 129. The PQ during Justified on FX Tuesday night was appalling.

Space.. it could be one of the reasons why they want to move all the HD's off of 61.5.

If they launched them full res like I expect then they know they launched them full rez. It was not a mistake.

In addition the MPEG4 encoders have gotten MUCH better over the past 2 years, so who knows in this move perhaps they are using better encoders as well.

Of course it takes up more room! The real surprise here is (if it's really full res on 72) why Dish is passing that res rather than cramming more channels on a transponder. Maybe they're trying to get me to spring for a 1000.4 rather than pay for the upgrade themselves... Nah! They would have to be much less secretive about the new channels on 72 AND the new res before they can expect people to reach for their wallets.

I thought it was good.

I just watched it last night. I didn't notice as much motion blur. I'll have to rewatch it some. I'll see if I can get some pics of high motion and compare it to other recorded shows with bad motion blur issues.

I have noticed same thing since I moved off 61.5 and getting the HD from 129 now. HD Picture quality has some noticable improvement. Maybe 61.5 just being so packed and Dish had compressed crap out of everything on it.......

For some reason I notice that ESPN one day HD PQ can be horrible then another day the HD PQ appears to be amazing??

Thats an ESPN issue. It actually looks like that at ESPN.

It all depends on what trucks they are using to send back the signals. Some look good, some don't.

But if you notice Sportscenter looks good all the time. :)

Isnt espn upgrading there studios on the east coast to 1080P? I know the one there building out in LA is being built out that way. Also, it seems like dish has the extra room at eastern arch and is going to use it for full resolution hd rather than letting it go to waste. I applaud them for that!
